hey robin, we're a low-key group, and our first purpose is to encourage open water swimming. the saturday swim affords several routes. one swimmer will probably swim long, and i'm happy to swim along the shore nearby for as long as you want to try it. your first object will probably be just getting used to the cold, getting calm and getting your breathing settled, and putting your face in the water. even if that's for 5-10 minutes, that's a good start. do you have a wetsuit?
welcome to the saturday swim. just a head's up that the water is 45f. i recommend eating something hot like oatmeal and sipping a hot drink on the way over to the lake, and having something hot to drink afterward, as well as layers of dry clothes to put on. silicone or rubber flanged earplugs, next to the eyedrops in most grocery stores, help keep you warm and prevent dizziness. and a couple of caps would help. lemme know any questions. thanks. shawn
