Mark Your Calendars: Silk Elephant in November

I hate to be that guy that's sending you two email messages in one night, but here it goes. I just posted a new FoodBurgh meetup for Nevember. This time, we'll be headed to Bangkok Balcony.

What: Silk Elephant
When: Wednesday, November 3,[masked]:00 PM

I have a bit of a confession to make. I've lived in Squirrel Hill for longer than the 4 years or so that Silk Elephant has been around, and I have never actually give the place a try. Initially, I was skeptical. I only realized they were run by the same husband and wife duo as Bangkok Balcony just weeks ago. Lately, everyone has been telling me what a fool I am to have ignored the place. I'm guessing they're right.

For whatever reason, I just tend to be far more willing to take a chance on a low-key place that's been around forever, then some flashy, well-decorated new upstart. Though I've been a Bangkok Balcony fan for a while, I always just imagined that Silk Elephant was more glitz then good. Apparently, I had the wrong impression.

details: Urbanspoon / Post-Gazette / FoodBurgh

The restaurant is owned by the same couple as Bangkok Balcony. They decor is something they both worked hard to refine--but did so right along side a high quality menu. The Silk Elephant theme leans more toward tapas and wine than the balcony, but both feature both entrees and small plates on the menu.

Whether you're like me, and have never tried the place, or your like everyone else and teasing me for never having tried the place, I'm pretty confident this will be a fun outing--to a place right in my own back yard (well, close to it).
