Bike Ride from North Hollywood Metro Station to Little Tokyo & a Japanese Lunch

Join us for a bicycle ride from the North Hollywood Metro Station to Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles

QUALIFICATIONS:

This bike ride is for all bike riders who can ride at least 17 miles one way at 12 miles per hour. We will be riding from North Hollywood to Little Tokyo through the city streets and some small hills in Griffith Park continuing through downtown Los Angeles.

MEETING LOCATION:

North Hollywood Metro Station

MEETING TIME:

Arrive at 9:00AM to park your car, get ready, unload your bike, and add air to your tires.
Meet with our group at 9:30AM on the Plaza above the Metro Station to introduce yourself. We'll go over the ride plan and have a safety talk.
Depart promptly at 9:45AM.

GETTING TO THE NORTH HOLLYWOOD METRO STATION:

You can either travel to the North Hollywood Metro Station starting point on your bicycle or by driving your car. There is free parking at the North Hollywood Metro Station. If you arrive by Metro, the North Hollywood Metro Station is at the north end of the Red Line. Please allow at least one hour or more for the Metro ride to the station.

BICYCLE RIDE:

From the North Hollywood Metro Station we will take a 17 mile bike ride to Little Tokyo starting along the new Chandler Blvd. bike path. Next we will be passing through a couple of peaceful residential streets to Riverside Drive.  After crossing the Victory Bl. bridge we continue through some small hills in Griffith Park to downtown Los Angeles. The bike ride will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The complete ride is 34 miles roundtrip, but if you only want to bike one way you can take the Metro back from the Little Tokyo/Arts District Metro Station on the Gold Line to the North Hollywood Station on the Red Line by transferring at Union Station.

After lunch you can decide if you want to join us for the ride back on bicycle to the North Hollywood Metro Station or ride back on the Metro.

BICYCLE ROUTE:

- North Hollywood Metro Station to North Keystone Street along the Chandler Blvd. bicycle path (2 3/4 miles)
- North Keystone Street to West Riverside Drive (1 1/2 miles)
- West Riverside Drive to Griffith Park (2 miles)
- Through Griffith Park to Riverside Drive (3 1/2 miles)
- Riverside Drive to Main Street to Little Tokyo (7 miles)

RETURN BICYCLE ROUTE:

We will return through downtown Los Angeles transitioning to the Los Angeles River trail continuing in the neighborhood to North Hollywood Metro Station.

- Comfortable bike, spare tube, small pump or CO2 cartridges, and a patch kit in case of a flat tire

- Sunscreen and first aid kit
- Bike lock
- Water and power bars or other snacks
- Cell phone
- $3.00 on a TAP card for return Metro ride if needed
- CASH for lunch

The restaurant and mall is located just east of South San Pedro Street and north of East 2nd Street.

Shabu-shabu is a Japanese hot pot in which you cook thinly sliced beef, tofu, rice stick and udon noodles, and vegetables, such as napa cabbage, enoki mushrooms, shungiku (chrysanthemum leaves), wakame (seaweed), and carrots, in a pot of hot water. You can dip the meat and vegetables in delicious sesame sauce or ponzu sauce before eating them with a bowl of rice. You can also have the vegetarian option.

Follow your meal with a delicious ice coffee desert.
