December Restaurant of the Month - Portland Pie

Note: This event requires a reservation and it may or may not require a deposit by the organizer so all cancellations within 48 hours of the event requires a reason. Please do not sign up unless you are sure that you can make it.

The December Restaurant of the Month is Portland Pie.  Next month we will go to Copper Door in Bedford.  Note I am initially limiting it to 8, so hopefully we can get in, but a waiting list is available.

About the Restaurant of the Month:

In 1997, owners Steve Freese and Nat Getchell opened Portland Pie Company, a take-out and delivery business specializing in premium gourmet pizza with flavored pizza dough.  The concept quickly caught on as did the demand for more diverse menu offerings. Shortly after opening their doors, they added appetizers, salads and sandwiches to their menu.  After five successful years as a take-out and delivery based business, the concept was changed to meet the needs of the Greater Portland area, and their flagship Portland location was relocated to  accommodate a sit down/dine in experience. This evolution was also accompanied with a bar area offering beer and wine, and later full liquor service. Since its inception, our company has expanded to 6 full service locations including dine in, delivery and take away as well as a wholesale manufacturing company that produces Portland Pie Company’s signature gourmet flavored pizza dough balls.

It’s All About The Dough

Their doughs originated in the kitchen of the first Portland Pie Company restaurant in Portland, ME in 1997. Looking for a way to stand out in a crowded pizza landscape, owners Nat Getchell and Steve Freese created their signature flavored pizza doughs Basil, Wheat, Garlic & Beer. From the beginning, only the finest ingredients were used in the dough, a commitment that has continued to this day. Each  dough flavor carries its own distinct taste and bite profiles which puts Portland Pie’s pizza above the rest.

BASIL: Made with Sweet Egyptian Basil, slightly sweet and the perfect compliment to our uniquely seasoned pizza sauce.
WHEAT: Not just the healthy choice, made with our custom mix of white and wheat flours with a hint of honey.
GARLIC: Dense and flavorful, made with fresh chopped garlic, gives your favorite pie a little kick.
BEER: Made with Shipyard’s famous Export Ale, aromatic and perfectly aerated, with the slight twang of a good sourdough.

Portland Pie Works

Portland Pie Company offers premium gourmet pizzas, appetizers, salads, pastas, and sandwiches along with a full bar to its customers. Portland Pie set deep roots in Maine for the first 15 years, establishing locations in Portland, Scarborough, and Westbrook, Maine, and has expanded the restaurants to different states including Manchester and Nashua, New Hampshire as well as Reading, Massachusetts.

Portland Pie Company provides reliable take away, award winning delivery service, and a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere in both the dining room and pub areas of the restaurants. The dining rooms are cozy and perfect for families. The pub areas have multiple HDTVs, serve beer, wine and liquor, and are a great place to watch the game or have a drink with a friend. Looking into the future, Portland Pie will continue doing what we do best: providing high quality gourmet pizza, consistent service in a warm relaxed atmosphere, and flavored dough balls to a growing market.

This casual restaurant is one of my very favorites! I've loved every item I've had. Everyone I have brought there has been happy.
