Footscray Walking, Eating & Resource Mapping Tour

Sylvie will take us on a tour of Footscray where we'll discover the local culture, history and food.  The Ethiopian meal at the end of the walk will cost around $15.00. You may want to bring extra $$$s and a shopping bag :)

This is also the initial meeting for our resource mapping, with the aim to build a database of initiatives, enterprises and organisations in Footscray which may be interesting to collaborate with.

The purpose of our mapping activity is to weave a collaborative community between all these.

The Footscray Walking and Eating Tour represents the physical experience , while the Ushahidi crowdmap represents the virtual experience.

There is a car park at the back of National Trust listed 'Ercildoune' and it is about 3 minutes walk from Footscray Station. Ercildoune is owned by the Footscray Historical Society and their facility is downstairs. Upstairs is Effemmera which consists of art studios, a gallery and a film production company called Adventures in Genre. Sylvie's studio is at Effemmera.

Sorry guys, have had some last minute unavoidable work pop up that's going to take me a while to sort out and won't be able to make it today.

Hope you all have a great time!

Given the crowd will attract some attention, if you have your own business cards/flyers it might be worth bringing some to hand out to curious onlookers & leave at some of the venues.
    Are there any FML ones?

Good idea, Dave. Unfortunately we don't have any printed materials yet. We'll have to get their details instead. Unless someone has access to printer and can make something quickly today?

How far of a walk is your studio from Footscray station? I might be cutting it close because the earliest I can leave work is 3:30 and i'm in the CBD near Flinders St station. Trying to time things out so I can arrive as close to 4pm as I can. Here's my mobile by the way:[masked]

It's close to the station so you should be ok Calgary. Otherwise, call me on[masked] to see where to go to find us when you arrive. See you this afternoon!

I have some concerns about particpants wanting to get to the crowdfunding meeting at the Cotton Mills by 6.30pm. Is this realistic considering the walk will probably commence at 4.15pm? The walk will take at least an hour and then with an Ethiopian meal, which is not fast food, and back to Ercildoune for some to get their cars.

I think the crowdfunding meeting will start when the walk is finished. It might be postponed a bit... We don't want to rush!

Unfortunately, we're not going to have the online mapping tool ready in time. Still record everything interesting - we'll get it up when we can, and build the map at a later date.

Is there a population limit for this tour? (Not that we seem to be close to it) ;~{)]

Sorry, but I've had an annual function invite land which I had to miss last year and which wasn't in my diary when we voted on dates. Will keep doing my own ad hoc Footscray explorations.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
