How come you are interested in the Footscray Maker Lab?

Big change was seeing Sunshine-St. Albans-Sydenham as the heart of the western growth areas and on longer the end of the line. At last week's City of Brimbank Economic Development and Transport Committee meeting, I made the point that if the greater west is to play its desired role in the suddenly politically fashionable revival of industry in 21st century forms, it is becoming even more urgent to preserve indicators of the size and scope of the industrial (and military) complexes around which the west was built over 150 years. Much of this is on the Maribyrnong including the Docklands Cotton Mills complex. Everyone who can needs to take the tour on The Blackbird with local legend Peter Somerville OAM (or his son Warwick) to get more of that background. But it also stretches to the Orica facility at Deer Park currently being cleaned up with a view to breaking up to Truganina Explosives Reserve at the back of Hobsons Bay Mens Shed which itself is another important chunk of background.

Are you interested in helping co-create the Footscray Maker Lab?

Yes, initially by moving in some existing operations which need to be (better) located. More info after I get blessing of other interested parties.
