Announcing a new Meetup for Foreign Language Enthusiasts of Pittsburgh!

What: A Night in Budapest: Hungarian Food & Music

When: Saturday, September 11, 2010 8:30 PM

Where: Gypsy Caf?
1330 Bingham Street Southside
Pittsburgh , PA 15203
[masked]

Experience a magical evening of Hungarian music and food featuring the seldom-seen cimbalom as Pittsburgh's George Batyi of The Gypsy Strings and Chicago cimbalom player Alex Udvary perform during an intimate dinner.

The cimbalom is an uncommon musical instrument that is like an open piano struck with hammers. Centuries ago, the cimbalom was adopted by Romani (Gypsy) musicians and the instrument traveled with them throughout Europe. Cimbalom is also an important instrument in Klezmer orchestras.

The musicians will play "European Style" through the dinner courses, starting with sets on the stage and continuing to individual tables to solicit requests.

This event is held at The Gypsy Cafe, which is an intimate neighborhood cafe inspired by the cuisines of the Mediterranean in a smoke-free atmosphere.

The restaurant, near City Theatre, embraces the local art scene with displays and performances.
