Monofilament Madness Cleanup - Sponsored by Keep Lee County Beautiful.
8:00 am - 12:00 noon
An annual event coordinated by Keep Lee County Beautiful during which volunteers go out in boats, kayaks, canoes, jet skis and anything else that floats, to remove monofilament fishing line and other harmful debris from the mangrove areas of Lee County. The boaters begin working at safe light (dawn) and continue until around noon at which time they are treated to a "Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue" by Sam Galloway Ford. Collection sites at the Mound House on Fort Myers Beach and Tarpon Point Marina in Cape Coral.

Let's meet at the Mound House at 8:00. Someone else from the Cape may want to lead a group at the Tarpon Point Marina site.

Bring bug spray, drinks, and sunscreen. A pair of work gloves may come in handy since one never knows what you may find to haul out.
Yes, I know it's early but think of all the wildlife you may get to see!

I Was going to do the Mound House Cleanup but Tarpon Point seemed to need more volunteers. Got bag of trash and probably 75 sections of monofilament, hooks, bobbers, and one hook still had a fish (although rather dryed out) on it. Betsy Clayton took a photo of my prized catch. Got to meet Vicki, Chris, and Marc who invited me over to sit and have lunch....Nice meeting you! Then off to San Carlos RV Park for a full day of festivities.....A Good Day! Rege

    •  Sorry to have missed it. I really enjoyed last years.
    •  It was awesome...I am so lucky to have such neat friends to hang out with to do this kind of stuff.
    •  Great cause, and great fun. Our group was small as we were at the Tarpon Point site. Chris and Vicki were troopers picking up everything from a plastic chair, to plastic bottles, and of course lots of monofilament! Their kayak looked like the Beverly Hillbillies. I even climbed a tree to get a lime green kids pool "noodle".

Very successful trash hauling from the Cape put in. Just four of us from the club--Me, Chris, Marc Odden and Regis Good. The only problem was a little disorganization from the "Keep Lee Beautiful" group regarding trash pickup/lunch tickets. The organizers were gone before we came back from our paddle at 12:15. A beautiful day weather wise, and a lot of fun paddling with our new friend Marc.
    •  Beautiful day to be on the water...loads of trash were taken out of our waterways thanks to the generous volunteering spirit of many people. Phil won a prize for the most unusual object taken out of the water....a child's toy - sit and spin!
    •  Great Cause, Great People and a Great Time.
    •  Great cause, great friends. I always have a wonderful time when I paddle with my West Coast buddies. Sheila, Colleen, Sue, Dave -- thanks!! It was great seeing everyone again. See you soon.
