6th Annual Kayak Decorating/Cape Coral Boat-A-Long

HO! HO! HO! It's time for the 36th annual holiday boat-a-long in Cape Coral. Let's meet at the Cape Coral Yacht Club around 5:00 to decorate our kayaks and get into the festive spirit. The parade starts in Bimini Basin in front of Four Freedoms Park at 7:00 and then heads out to the river. We can do a leisurely paddle up and down some of the canals and then sit along the side of the river in front row seats (our yaks) to watch the parade go by. Start searching for battery powered lights and decorations since getting creative in decorating is half the fun! Since this is a night paddle, bring flashlight, PFD, whistle, snacks and drinks.

Must be comfortable paddling at night in open water in unpredictable conditions which may include wind and choppy seas.

Sorry, but this one is NOT for the first time kayaker.

Why do you not leave the troll trophy blinking on your dashboard??? Because the well lubricated fellow in the truck in front of you will bounce off the curb 5 times trying to pull over because he thinks you are the COPS !!!!!

Great time and the decorations were awesome. If anyone finds a pair of glasses, progressive lenses, purple frame, I know the owner

Great weather and everyone did a great job decorating their kayaks. We certainly got lots of attention from participants in the "real" boat parade!

CONGRATS TO JANET OUR OVERALL WINNER THIS YEAR,
The boats were all so fantastic this year it was hard to decide.
Ken gets the award for best lights with honorable mention to Gail (I think that was her name)
The most creative was Linda Paxon and partner with their Mary and Joseph theme.
Bea's boat was great also for her first time.

hoping the weather clears up for tonight, as i KNOW it will! Glenda & i will meet at the yacht club, decorate her double kayak there, then drive back to my house just off the bimini basin & put in there; we should be waiting at freedom park where all the action takes place at 7pm, anyone is welcome to join us!!! i'll be wearing my santa suit throwing mardi gras beads - (i'm from new orleans).

Just a heads up...the powers that be would not allow us to be part of the parade with a boat under 18 feet...just too dangerous to be around all the big power boats. That's why we stay out of the way and launch at the club. Be careful if you go into Bimini Basin.

thanks, i have 2 friends on the basin with docks & parties - had no problem in past years staying along the sidewalls out of traffic. see ya there!!

    So what is everyone doing?

    December 15, 2013

Meeting at the yacht club, padding the canals - the people along there call us the "pre-parade". Then watch the parade at the end of the canal like we have done the past 5 years. Looks like the weather is clearing. See everyone soon.

i live just off the Bimini Basin canal, on Stratford Ct, my canal is the Tamiami Cana, just a few down from Freedom Parkl; i have a hoist to lower boats into water, if anyone cares to enter canal from my dock... 5279 Stratford Ct. [masked] (corner of El Dorado & Stratford )sounds like fun! i'v been in the parade before with my bicycle on pontoons dressed as Santa, throwing out beads... anyone who wants to decorate at the yacht club, then drive over to my house, i'm 7 blocks south of Coronado... you don't have to go out on the river if you don't want to. I wore battery operated led lights from Harbor Freight... i was told i looked like a train coming at ya!! they also sell solar strings of lights they stay lit all night!

Due to a health issue we have to cancel so if there is anyone on a wait list they can have our confirmation

To everyone, PLEASE stay out of the way of the power boats in the parade, they will have the "right of way" for this event. Remember, we are there to enjoy the show.

please EVERYONE HAVE A LIGHT , FRONT AND BACK TO BE ON THIS PADDLE,
NOT ONLY THE LAW BUT DANGEROUS!!

    December 9, 2013

    • Ken

Based on past "Boat-a-Long" outings, lights will probably be the least of our worries.

call if you care to put in at my canal near the bimini basin for the boat parade; i'll be at the Yacht club at 5pm, then drive back to my house 5 min away & put in there; any beginners don't have to paddle the river if you don't want.
