PICNIC ISLAND from Causeway to Sanibel

How about a little Picnic at PICNIC ISLAND? We can launch from the Causeway which is only a 1.6 mile paddle to the Island, or if you want to save the $6.oo toll you can launch at the Punta Rasa Boat launch which is a 2.4 mile paddle to the Island. The problem is the limited parking at the boat launch on week ends. There is always adequate parking on the Causeway. Bring you own booze and food.
As always know your limitations and paddle at your own risk. If you launch from the boat ramp you must cross a heavily traveled boat lane, there is minimal boat traffic when leaving from the causeway. Depending on winds it can get rough because it is all open water.
Double Click on the MAP to the right.
Anyone wanting to rent need to contact Jory themselves to make sure he comes with enough boats. See the contact number in his comment. You need to tell him what kind of boat you want....must be done ahead of time. Jory = Phone[masked]

Great trip--met a lot of nice new people. I like it when we have a destination where we can get out, swim, and socialize! Gusty wind provided a good workout on the way back in.

It was a great paddle. The group is getting larger, there was a lot of new faces and it was good to see everyone enjoying themselves.

I am not an open water kayak enthusiast..but this was an awesome trip for the "A" team..you know who are...You know the cheap ones who decided not to pay the $6 fee. Actually I thought i was just at a designated launch site. However what an experience to and from the island. 4ft swells, tidal changes, large boat wakes, toretntal rain, wind, channel changes, only to find at the end of the rainbow new friendships, the mosaic of multi colored kayaks, a simple island with simple beauty. IT WAS A GREAT DAY. Thanks to everyone.

Picnic Island was a nice little island to explore. The paddle was fairly easy on the way there but a bit more challenging on the way back due to the gusts of wind. Thanks again,Don!

Colleen, from Picnic Island it would be approx. the same distance from the Causeway to Picnic Island. I will have my husband map it tonight so that I will have the exact number of miles.

Debbie....we can see what everyone feels like doing when we all meet. Sometimes we do have two groups that form. We will play it by ear! How far is St. James City from the causeway?

New to the group and looking forward to meeting everyone. Colleen had mentioned making this longer by going on the backside....anyone interested in going to St. James City from Picnic Island and then back to the causeway...Can always have lunch at the Waterfront.

I'll bring rental kayaks if anyone needs them, just let me know. Since I will attend the paddle, the rate of $25 per boat will be in effect. Call to reserve:[masked]
