I was recently at the Start Collabratory MUG in SchaumVegas and had the opportunity to listen to a presentation by a young man who is curretnly enrolled in the Founders Institute (http://fi.co).
If you don't know what that is, take a minute to check it out; a 4 month intense startup training program.
He talked about the program, a bit about his project and the mentors that are guiding him in this process. When I asked about the actual developing he mentioned that the business plan is all on paper but would like to start development. Hence this email. He would like to build a relationship with a developer for his project and I offered to push it out to you all. I know most of you "have jobs" but figured this could be an interesting opportunity for one of you. After all, this is why we do this: Because we enjoy it. Right?
What he is looking for is a back-end and jQuery pro. From what I was told it is a web application which needs instant search + Question & Answer and voting system. Social Authentication and integration with the social networks. It will have user accounts and profiles, users can subscribe to questions, topics etc and get notifications. His preference is Ruby/Rails or Python but not afraid of PHP. All OpenSource.
If you are interested and think this is something that you could get into, hit me up personally and I will give you the introduction.
From his talk, and from what I have read, this Founders Institute is a very tough program built to help those driven to get things done. This could be a very cool "ground floor" opportunity for the right person how has a few spare hours to invest.
