Saturday Tech Meeting - Subject is Cryptocurrency

Bitcoins - Cryptocurrencies. How do they work? Come and learn.

Our presenters will be Alex Akselrod and Mike Caughey, both are members of the Richmond Bitcoin Meetup.

Alex has been a Linux user since he got a copy of Slackware on floppies in 1998 when he was in high school, and his entire family uses only Linux at home. He has been in IT in earnest since 2001, and specializing in security since 2004. Currently, Alex works for Dell SecureWorks as a security engineer, mostly on Linux-based platforms such as Check Point and Sourcefire. He first heard of Bitcoin in 2009 and mined a single orphaned block before gaving up on it until 2011, when he saw that it was making huge progress and got back into it then. He has  been obsessed ever since!

Michael has been involve in IT since he was 12, where he could be found programming a VIC 20, Apple IIe or eventually an IBM XT.

Michael has worked professionally as a System Engineer, Network Engineer and Software Developer, Designer and Architect for various companies.  Michael has developed & designed applications on many platforms:

- Mobile

- Embedded

- Desktop (Windows/Linux)

- Enterprise - N-Tier Sytems

His undergrad studies included Computer Science from VCU and Technical Management from Devry.  Michael obtained a Masters in Information System Management, with a focus on Security Management.

Current certifications include:

- EC Councils Certified Ethical Hacker

- Offensive Security Certified Penetration Tester

Michael works as a Security Engineer / Application Penetration Tester.
