The Role of Free Market and Libertarian Ideas in the US Presidential Election

For our next meeting we've got Tom Switzer as a guest speaker, leading a discussion entitled "The Role of the Free Market and Libertarian Ideas in the US 2012 Presidential Election". Tom is a Research Associate at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, a former opinion editor for The Australian and current editor of Spectator Australia.  As per previous events, our speaker will first give his presentation, after which we'll have the opportunity to discuss and debate the topic.

This event will also double up as the Mannkal/ECOMs Student Dinner, so we will be joined by some students from UWA.

More background on Tom can be found here: http://ussc.edu.au/people/tom-switzer

The $10 entry will cover food & drinks.  Be there from 6pm for a 6:30 start.

Hope to see you there!

-Stuart

G'day. I'm new to the group and looking forward to the next meetup. Hope it's OK for me to wade into the conversation.

First of all, I'm hoping this is not solely a Dems/Reps discussion forum. Does anyone still really believe there's much of a difference? As far as I can tell, the argument revolves mostly around who the next ruler of the human farm will be, and how the farm will "redistribute" the wealth. Who cares?

Are there any other anarcho capitalists in the group?

If you want to make a statement, go on FB and 'like' Republicans Abroad pages! We won't concede this race.

    G'day Charles
Yes our media and academia are relentlessly green-left.
It could be worse, expressing other opinions is still legal, for the moment.
As for Susan Maushart at UWA, it just so happens I am booked in to hear John Howard speaking concurrently nearby.
I am cool on JH but he is a temporary ally again the barbarians.
    Cheers

Looking forward to Tom's presentation - and his take on Treasury Secretary Swan's comments (I should be on ABC with John Barron next week on that same topic). As a warm up, check this out: UWA is hosting the quintessential New-york liberal: "10 Things I Hate about America", a public lecture by Susan Maushart, author and journalist. For an evening of pure US-bashing, please check: http://events.uwa.edu.au/event/20120810T034125Z-790-31747@events.uwa.edu.au/whatson/IAS

No US university would host such an event without proper qualifications and/or in a panel discussion format where both sides of the argument are presented and contrasted. UWA is displaying very low academic and intellectual standards. I would encourage you to attend.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
