Sunday Night Dumpster Diving Social

This outing is a chance to rescue good food that has been discarded and talk with others about freeganism, dumpster-diving and about living in these interesting times. Bring a couple of bags. No experience necessary. Please consider walking, biking, taking public transit or ridesharing. Throw-away culture has created the Great Pacific Garbage Patch Capt. Charles Moore of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation first discovered the Great Pacific Garbage Patch -- an endless floating waste of plastic trash. Now he's drawing attention to the growing, choking problem of plastic debris in our seas. Algalita Marine Research Foundation (AMRF) is a Long Beach, California-based non-profit marine research and education organization dedicated to the protection of the marine environment and its watersheds through research, education, and restoration. They have many videos in their Synthetic Seas Series - http://www.algalita.org/videos-synthetic-sea.html For more information on Algalita, visit http://www.algalita.org/ For more information on Freeganism, see the about page Keywords: Freegan, fregansim, bin raiding, skipping, anti-consumerism, clear conscience, sense of purpose, peace, live simply, reduce waste, help others, permaculture, zero waste, dumpster diving, sharing Peace, Eric Einem

I'm gonna try to bike, if it's in ridable condition.

I itemized the food that we got and estimated its value at $200. More info on my blog: http://amateurearthling.org/2009/07/27/a-dumpster-diving-...

It was great to see most people coming on their bikes. Dumpster diving by bike really reduces your ecological footprint. Transportation and food accounts for 2/3 of petroleum consumption.

I was surprised at how much good food there was, I've been eating it all week. Great company too.

We had a great time and there was way too much food. There were so many of us (great that so many were on bikes), and yet I didn't even finish pulling everything out of the dumpster. Wow. And that was with me taking enough food for a community of 20, and another girl taking extra for a food pantry. What a delicious shame...

There was plenty of food to go around and the company was great! Sunday is a good night to go.
