We’re an openly secular community with a focus on rationality, philosophy, science, technology, critical thinking and ethics. We embrace diversity and inclusion. We strive to create an environment that is supportive and respectful of all people—some of us identify as people of color, people with disabilities, and/or LGBTQI community members and those of us who don't are (loud) allies.
We’re more interested in figuring out the truth together than in proving ourselves right, or in arguing for the sake of arguing. We have both social and educational meetings that range from formal-ish group discussions over brunch to attending interesting events in the community and meeting up in a bar for some skeptical drinking.
To create a safe container for discussions of topics with potential triggers, we use, and ask all members to use, nonviolent communication (https://bit.ly/2U2N4KD).
We cultivate a "calling in" culture: https://bit.ly/2J4895V. This is a practice of caring enough about each other to allow each other to make mistakes.
Because it costs money to maintain a group with more than 50 members, we remove inactives who haven't logged in on our website for over 3-4 months.
If you think you might be a good fit for our group, please request to join. We're looking forward to hearing from you!
