Exposure to French cultural events, which I love, and a chance to brush up and improve my French skills by speaking the langauge again.
The Elegance of the Hedgehog, by Muriel Barbery, which I read in English about a year before I saw the movie version at the Ritz last fall( in French with subtitles). The movie definitely took some liberties with the book, but it was very moving and captured the basic spirit of Barbery's book:) Also love the French operas "Lakme" by Leo Delibes and "Pelleas et Melisande" by Claude Debussy.
Merci means thank you. My skills now, after it's having been 10 years since I took two years of French, my skills between beginner and intermediate, I'd say. My reading and listening comprehension are much better than my quite rusty speaking skills. When I was in college I did a nice translation of a relatively simple poem by Victor Hugo, about his love for his daughter.
