We meet at the German club at sit down around a table with a drink and talk in French. It can be broken or impure French as long as the conversation flows! I believe that most language courses stress perfection too much and that getting comfortable in a language is more important than striving to do it 100% right. (after all, language should be an EQ not an IQ experience!).
I base my ideas about language learning from my previous experience in Africa where there were "Francais expatrie' avec francais rouille'", Zairois, Belgians, Pieds-Noirs, Mauriciens etc etc., as well as people that studied the grammar but needed the "verbal oil" to become fluent. We all spoke with defects but it flowed and we all learned without effort.
Why the German Club? My experience with organising meetups in Adelaide made me choose the local German club but in future we may change it if anyone can make a suggestion.
