Intermediate French Practice Session: Vos Voyages aux Regions Francophones

For intermediate "students" who are developing confidence with free-form French conversation.  This is a motivational practice session, not a class.  We do not correct each other nor do we struggle to get every word perfect.

We practice what we know.  We develop more facility recalling and utilizing French words, phrases, and grammar.  We practice speaking more fluidly and with more confidence.  Our greater ease motivates us to learn more.   Eventually we find that we are more comfortable speaking with more advanced francophones.

It is easy to participate.  Use whatever French that you do know. Fill in the many inevitable holes with your best guess -- or with English -- whatever is necessary to keep conversing smoothly.  Translate after each sentence so that everyone else will understand what you are saying.

You can look up new words after our conversation, but, during the meeting, play our game: pretend that you are fluent and have no need to hesitate.  Keep the conversation flowing, allowing the French to flow up and out until the words seem to flow unconsciously.

If you want, do a bit of pre-meeting homework: Practice what you might say on the subject before the meeting. You can look up words or write out a script.  Practice at home.  But, when you do get to us, forget the script.  Use anything that you remember, and fake the rest.

The philosophy of this practice session is that "It is more important to try than to get it right."  No one will judge you. We'll just have fun together getting ever more comfortable using the language.

This meeting we will converse, amongst other things, about any travel you have made or want to make to French-speaking regions. Where have you gone?  Where do you want to go?

That description above is pretty much very close to what I was looking for. So hopefully I will be able to make it for the next meeting.

A lot of fun with half of us having been there before and the other half jumping right in! I had to ask for a few translations but I was able to follow along pretty well.

I'm surprised by the level of growth I've seen since becoming an organizer, it's given me more confidence in my abilities.
