The 19th of August will mark the 2 year anniversary of Friendly Code. We've accomplished some big things, including the redevelopment of Viget, the launch of our data portal, and Code Across Grand Rapids.
Let's take stock in what we've done, what we've learned, and where we should take this group next. I think we should put all our focus in growing Grand Rapids Open Data, but I'd like to hear your thoughts as well.
I want to find a way to mature the organization moving forward. How can we better identify projects and get them delivered? How can we better involve non-developers? Should we only have hack nights, or bring in speakers?
I'll be looking for people to take some core roles in the Brigade. Code for America has defined a few, including:
Delivery Lead - Knowing the status of all projects
Community Organizer - Help plan and run events
Storyteller - Marketing and outside PR
You can read more about those positions here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oEB1CuzCHldxP_bzcvmcrmK0yAE1BzV2AGhtwtYKZVY/
The weekend following this meetup is BarCamp, which all of you should attend. I'd love to come out of this evening with a game plan for the future so we can present it there.
