THE DOWNTOWN PHOENIX MEETUP
We're a group of folks who work hard at believing they live in a real city. We are tired of (and not interested in) driving to Scottsdale in search of a social life (sorry, Scottsdale-ites). We know that there are fabulous things going on in Downtown Phoenix and we want to support the wonderful independent businesses that are springing up in our neighborhoods. We want to meet more urban-ish people who love doing urban-ish things.

WHAT. WHERE. WHEN.
Alternative art, varied music, sometimes strange events, great food, scintillating conversation. Everywhere and anywhere fun and funky. Whenever and as often as we feel like doing fun and funky things. We do our best to comb both print and online sources for events and locations to meet up, but we love new ideas. Any member can suggest an event. The only caveat is that the location should be in downtown Phoenix. The definition of 'downtown' is flexible enough to include Mama Java's to the east, Camus to the North, Casablanca to the West, and, hmm, let's see...Jackson Street to the South. Roughly.


WHO.
So far, absolutely fabulous people. Everyone we've met thus far has been social, fun, smart, able to pay their bar bill, and not creepy. Attendance at our meetups varies from just a few people to about 20 people. Since new members are joining all the time, about 50% of attendees are newcomers. First-timers won't feel friendless and alone. You should join this group if you are laid back enough to enjoy unstructured gatherings but polite enough to RSVP properly; if you dig subversive activities but are not covertly trying to sell or recruit us; if you want to meet other downtown dwellers but you?re not looking to hit on us; you love Tivo but you can break away once every 60 days to attend an event. If you can appreciate the carnivalesque, can blather on for hours about the nuances of whisky or everything you know about punk (or Neil Diamond), or can guide a mid-century modern tour of downtown, we'll love you even more.
