Confusion Corner Bar & Grill

Since this weekend is a busy one for a lot of people I have spoken to, I have decided to keep this meet up nice and simple.

So Friday after work, come out and unwind with us. Lets get together and try this place.

I have never been there before and would love to try it.

Reservations for 30 in the DINING ROOM have been made.

They do have a parking lot at the back.

I had a really good time visiting with new people. The restaurant was nice, clean but a bit loud and the service was good. The food was not that good, and the automatic tip on the bill was not appropriate. I would not make an effort to go back to Confusion Corner Bar and Grill.

No machine for me that night as I paid cash, and as I have only just started going out for dinner in a group atmosphere I was not aware of this practice. I know better now. Still an honest person(waitress) should have said something to each person that was obviously overpaying. In my opinion.

Its true the machine cannot differentiate. I think there is just two different views of one thing, and we will just have to agree to disagree. No one being wrong or right, just having their own truth, both being valid.

This was probably one of the best restaurant visits I've had with MeetUp. I enjoyed the decor, the atmosphere and the service. The server who waited on me did point out that the tip was already added to the bill. Because of that, I gave her an extra $2.00. I also had the fish and chips, and I thought it was almost the best I've eaten in Winnipeg. (Good fish and chips is not easy to make) I would say the chef is not North American, judging by the really tasty tartare sauce and the coleslaw. Prepared as it was, it's very European. The pieces of fish were large, tasty and very filling. I did not finish my portion, as I was satisfied. For me, that's saying something! I usually finish everything on my plate. I didn't even look at the desert menu, I had absolutely NO room! As I noted earlier, the fact that they have cloth napkins is a real "biggie" in my book. I will definitely go there again.

After reading what Cheron wrote, it occurred to me that I indulged in dessert! My portion of salmon was small, but delicious, so I had room for more. I had Mississippi Mudpie and worried that it would be too sweet, but it was not! It was creamy and nicely sweet - I loved it!! About the tip issue: The waitress told me that pre-adding the tip was standard for large groups and that the person who books the table is supposed to be told, plus it was written on the menu. I tipped extra because I used to waitress and know how often they get stiffed through no fault of their own. I also recall finding a lemon-water refill appearing without me even realizing. (Thanks for the attentive service Mary-Lynn!)

Things change Stacey, whether it's food, a way of dressing or whatever. I remember once going to the supposedly best Italian restaurant in Boston, USA. I lived in Europe for quite a while, and often traveled to Italy whether for business or pleasure. I was SO disappointed at this restaurant, as it in no way measured up to how food was served in Italy. Now I know that's what's so good about going to different countries and seeing how they do things. I was at the German Market last weekend at Fort Garry Square. It was nothing like what I'd experienced in Germany. I was not disappointed however, as I realise that through time, traditions and customs get "watered down" and this is the way they do things now. It's just a matter of "live and learn."

I had to admit my meal wasn't the greatest either in portion and appearance. Considering I've been there before many times I was disappointed this time around. If I decide to go back again I wouldn't order the same meal.

    December 7, 2013

    • Stacey

What did you order, Gus, if you don't mind me asking? I cannot remember.

I had the fetticini Bolognese with ham. It didn't really satisfy my tastebuds but I do agree the waitress we had was very good

The atmosphere was really good. No doubts there, and the waitress was nice.

Well for this meet up, I have to say the place has a great atmosphere and ambience, even though it was noisy. It was wonderful seeing all of you, and great to see everyone talking together. Great place to meet a friend for a drink. My experience with the food on the other hand was not good. I ordered the fish and chips which came with cole slaw. Now I love cole slaw. They used Chinese cabbage in the slaw and the taste was a real let down for me. Although it tasted healthy, it was not flavorful. The fries were really good, but the fish was bland and a little oily even though the meal looked beautiful when presented to me. It was definitely NOT worth the money. I still had a great time. I am not likely to go back any time soon though.

Well I have to add, a few did like their food. The Bison short ribs apparently are very tender, but I saw the portion and their was about 3 or 4 ribs on the plate and mostly bone, so to me I would not be happy, but the person with the meal was. I saw the food the others had, and for the prices to me they were small decorative portions. To others, the portion sizes were fine.

If you enjoyed your meal, can you share what you liked about it? We would love to hear about it. I am not trying to condemn this restaurant, just share my thoughts on my meal.

sorry Stacey, this comment is out of place but .....how do I pay for my Phil ticket

    December 5, 2013

    • Stacey

On the screen with the info for Christmas with the Phil, I wrote that you can pay me before we go in. I can meet you at either Stella's café, or at the doors of the church. I am going to Stella's for around 1pm. So either works.

      December 5, 2013

    • Stacey

Or Susan, you can get the ticket from me, when you come tomorrow to the meet up.

      December 5, 2013

  • Stacey

Susan if you are coming out tomorrow to the Confusion Corner meet up, I can give you the ticket then, for Christmas with the Phil.

Sorry, this week has turned out busier than I anticipated, with being away until mid week. With Christmas around the corner, there are a lot of things going on. Looks like there are a few waiting, so someone can grab my spot! :) I'll get out soon.

Great place! Just hung out there tonight. Bison ribs were fantastic and so were the mojitos

    December 1, 2013

  • Stacey

FYI - There is a chance that somebody will cancel out on going to this meet up, but we have been getting most coming out. So the chance isn't too likely, until the last moment. Just thought I would give the new people a heads up.

    November 28, 2013

  • Stacey

FYI - This place requires reservations for large parties. They already have a large party booked for the lounge area at the same time, so they kindly are placing us in the dining room. I told them some want to eat, but some just want to drink. He asked how many wanted to eat. I said I don't know, about 70%, guessing... He said Okay well I will book you then, otherwise they were not going to take us. Just thought I would give you a heads up on the issue. So if this effects your decision on going please change your rsvp. If not, terrific! See you there!
