Explore the Assiniboine Forest

For this meet up, you are welcome to join us for a morning walk in the Assiniboine Forest.

See the birds and wildlife that inhabit that area at that time of day.

Should be warmer weather and there are lots of different kinds of birds that frequent the marshy area.

If we are lucky, we may even see a deer. But no matter what, it is a great way to start the day, to get the blood flowing.

We will go to Tim Horton's just down the street on Grant Avenue afterward.

NO $2 Meet Up fee.

NOTE: WE WILL ALL MEET UP IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE ASSINIBOINE FOREST, RIGHT ON THE CORNER OF CHALFONT AND GRANT AVE FOR 9:50AM.

For Little Mountain, there is no transit out there. Hey, sorry I missed this walk, hope I get some weekends off and participate in stuff. Take care.

Did you want to come to Little Mountain Park? Did you intend to go?

      June 4, 2014

    • David I.

      Yes.

You do go north on Brookside , but you turn left at Jefferson , which at that point is then called Farmer Road. There is a big giant tree that you can see from Brookside to guide you directly to the parking area.

    June 3, 2014

  • ray

This forest is similar to Little Mountain Park , lot's of walking trails there also.

It seems little Mountain Park is down Brookside Ave going north, then left on Lilyfield Rd. Is that right?

      June 3, 2014

What a great place to go for a walk. As I said, I thought it was just a row of trees from the street, never would have thought it was that large of an area back there. Great day for it too! Thanks Stacey! Nice to talk to a few more people!

    June 2, 2014

    • Stacey

There are a lot more trails and you could walk around there for hours, I am sure.

It was a beautiful walk with all the leaves on the trees! It was great time for the walk as is was just starting to get hot as we finished the walk. It was nice chatting with everyone.

That was an enjoyable nature walk thru the Forest. Managed to have a few good conversations and learning to place names and faces of some friends (eg: That's Todd, not Gus). .-)
Oh well, things can only get better, right?

Thanks, Stacey. It was a very nice morning and a pleasant walk through what some of us found to be a larger area of land than what was thought.

A nice morning and pleasant walk through nature. Some of us had no idea that the forest on that side was so big.

This was great fun ~ perfect weather, perfect length of time, and Timmy's after was a real bonus!

Wow! What great weather for this walk. Just perfect! Add in some wonderful people and good chit chat, and I have to say I had an absolutely fantastic time! It was great to meet so many new people and lovely to see so many regulars come out. Great turn out for a morning walk. No mosquitoes either. So glad you could join me. I look forward to seeing you all again real soon. I hope you enjoyed yourself too. I had a good time at Tim Horton's too. I am glad we could find enough seats for such a large group. See you next time!

If the weather is sweet and dandy, I'm in. I've been to the Assiniboine Forest before, when I first moved here from Ottawa. Nice gem of a place, so close to town. We are lucky to have such a public place.

What do I need to prepare for this walking? This is my first time so I don't know :)

    May 27, 2014

    • Stacey

It's not a very big park. The walk will be relaxed. I would say prepare for the weather of that day and wear good walking shoes. That is about it. We will walk for about an hour or so. Some bring water. Some don't need it.

      May 27, 2014

    So excited! I can't wait! (:

Some of us go to religious functions such as church on Sunday mornings or go out for brunch with family/friends. If the event is on a Sunday, could you consider making it after 1:30PM?

      1 · May 26, 2014

    • Stacey

Incase you are not aware, all walks in the past have been at 2pm, except for one at 6pm. For this walk we are doing it a little different because many wanted to get out early to experience the birds and wild life that is out at that time. There will be more at a later time in the future.
