The White Queen (The Cousins' War) by Philippa Gregory

  • Dec 4, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The holidays are upon us so it's time to celebrate.  This month's Book Club gathering will be a potluck dinner at Susan Monroe's home in San Mateo.  (The address will be given to members when they RSVP.)  We'll each bring a dish to share with the group and Susan will supply plates, cutlery, glassware, etc.  Also BYO what you would like to drink for the evening.

If you've already RSVP'ed, please send a message indicating what dish you plan to bring to share with the group.  Maggie will be coordinating the responses so we don't get too many of the same items.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday and thank you to Susan for generously offering to host this event.

--------------------------------------

The White Queen tells the story of a woman of extraordinary beauty and ambition who, catching the eye of the newly crowned boy king, marries him in secret and ascends to royalty. While Elizabeth rises to the demands of her exalted position and fights for the success of her family, her two sons become central figures in a mystery that has confounded historians for centuries: the missing princes in the Tower of London whose fate is still unknown. From her uniquely qualified perspective, Philippa Gregory explores this most famous unsolved mystery of English history, informed by impeccable research and framed by her inimitable storytelling skills.

A big shout out to Susan for hosting our holiday party. Thank you for your gracious hospitality. And a thank you to all the great chefs who outdid themselves with the food; it all looked and tasted delicious.
We welcomed several new members, had lots of interesting conversations and then a stimulating discussion about "The White Queen". All in all it was a wonderful evening.

The next MeetUp will be held on 8 January (the first Wednesday is New Year's Day so, for this month only, we'll be meeting on the second Wednesday). We'll be back at The Olde Spaghetti Factory in Redwood City and Jenny Wantuch will be leading the discussion on our first book of 2014, "Defending Jacob".

Happy holidays everyone. We'll see you in the New Year.

Hi everyone. If you haven't yet dropped me a note to let me know what you're bringing, please take a moment to do that so I can make sure we have a good mix of dishes. Thanks.

    Hi Conversationalists,
If everyone is interested in doing a $10 'Secret Santa', I would be happy to add it. I left it out because I was worried that people wouldn't have enough time to shop given the late posting of the event. What does everyone think?
