Tate Britain Art Gallery (Saturday 18th January)

Join us for a Saturday afternoon visit to Tate Britain. London's Tate Britain holds the largest collection of British art in the world from 1500 to the present day (there are 60,000 works in its collection).

Inside you'll find masterpieces by Gainsborough, Hogarth, Millais, Whistler, as well as outstanding modern and contemporary artists such as Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud and Damien Hirst. Tate Britain also have the largest collection of works by JMW Turner in the world.

The museum has free entry. Please note that this is a general visit to the permanent exhibitions, rather than a verbal guided tour.

We will meet outside the main riverside entrance on Millbank at 2:00pm (organisers will be holding up a meetup sign). Also ensure you take my mobile number which you can call if you are having difficulties finding the location - 0757 8360117. My Mobile will be switched on at the meetup point outside the main entrance to the museum and switched off when we enter the actual museum at approximately 2:15pm. Once inside, members can either stay with our group or explore the museum by themselves.

At 3:30 pm we will meet once again outside the main entrance and then members have the option of joining us at a nearby local bar/pub for drinks and a chat. My mobile will be switched on once again when we meet outside the entrance at 3:30pm after our visit.

Finally, if you have any queries then please do not hesitate to contact us by email through this website. Just click on my photo (Martyn) and choose the option to send an email.

Kind regards
Martyn and Terry

I'm waitlisted, yet there are 5 spots left. Is there a "claim place" button I missed? :)

Also once the event deadline has passed or the event has started RSVP changes and waiting lists no longer function so whilst its automatic within a decent lead in period at really short notice there is nothing anyone can do to make up for those that drop out at the last minute!

Thanks for the responses and I appreciate that members are willing to help with how the Meetup.com system works (and I have to use their settings). I am always more than happy to answer queries but it's also up to members to familiarize themselves with the Meetup platform as the settings can be quite detailed. I appreciate your suggestions Karla. Reading your comments again, you were suggesting that those on the waiting list should show-up in the hope of a place. That would not work I can assure you. But it's innovative in fairness. I am more than happy to continue this discussion, but if you want to do so then please can you email me as all attendees receive these comments and I don't think it's fair to overwhelm members with comments. Kind regards, Martyn

I totally see your frustration Karla but the syste does automatically let you know if you have been moved onto the attending list. The real isue lies with the people who cancel at the last minute or dont show. Then the system doesn't inform people they can attend. Martyn obviously is at the mercy of people making last minute decisions not tot come. I think its well run and both Terry and Martyn are good Hosts. Hopefully you ll make one of the next outings
    Theres my penny worth

To Terry and Martyn, thank you for organising this and for your warm welcome that you give everyone (not all organisers are this friendly)
First time for me, at Tate Britain.......... some very beautiful paintings, did not see all of them, but had a very fun time with Carolynn critiquing the one's we did see. Also very interesting haunted pub, with its very own ghost cam! :)
