Friday Late at The National Gallery

  • Mar 21, 2014 · 7:15 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for a Friday late opening at The National Gallery. The National Gallery is one of the ten most popular art galleries in the world.

The museum features works from artists such as Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Constable and Monet. The gallery is home to over 2300 masterpieces. The museum has free entry and is open until 9pm on our visit. We will meet outside the main Trafalgar Square entrance at 7:15 pm (I will have a Meetup sign - the main entrance is pictured above). After a short wait we will then enter the museum. Once inside, members can either stay with our group or explore the museum by themselves. Please note this is a general visit to the permanent exhibitions rather than an official guided tour.

After our visit, we will meet once again outside the main entrance at 8:45pm and wait until 9:00pm. Then members have the option of joining us at a nearby local bar/pub for drinks and a chat.

Ensure you take my mobile phone number. It will be switched off though when we enter the gallery. But it will be switched on again when we meet at 8:45 pm after our visit and then head to the pub. My number is[masked]

Finally, if you have any queries then please do not hesitate to contact us by email through this website. Just click on my photo (Martyn) and choose the option to send an email.

Kind regards
Martyn and terry

Really enjoyed it. Great evening. John, your "ad hoc" art tour was really appreciated, thanks!

A great evening with a little bit of everything: some art, chat and drink. Also, really glad the group didn't go inside the Gallery at 7.15 sharp.

Another great and fun event. Hope my "ad hoc" art tour didn't bore too many people! LOL

We are going to the Silver Cross pub after the national gallery visit. We will be there just after 9:00pm. Address 33 Whitehall, SW1A 2BX. It's the street directly in front of Trafalgar square.

I have received many emails/queries from those on the waiting list. We appreciate your patience but do ask everyone to kindly observe the waiting list as we are at capacity for this event. If you have been moved from the waiting list due to others dropping out you will automatically receive an email from Meetup notifying you of this. You can find out your position on the waiting list by scrolling down the page on the right hand side to the 'waiting list' and checking your position from first to last (top to bottom). We do also ask those who can no longer attend to immediately change your RSVP to 'no' as otherwise it's so unfair to others. If members no-show on two occasions they are removed from this group. Kind Regards, Martyn

Eek...I just checked my email and see that I've been moved from the wait list to attending, but am unable to make 7.15pm as i have been kept at work, working in a deadline.
I've not ever been a "no show" to a meetup and have just joined this group...I will check earlier next time. My apologies...have a good time.

    Hi Martyn
Just to be clear on this 'no show' policy - I am coming to National Gallery and to the pub but my friend will join us at the pub. I was not sure what to do with the RSVP and do not want to prevent someone on the waiting list from being able to attend the National Gallery.
I'm going into a teleconference meeting now so not going to be online this afternoon I'm afraid.

Hi Martyn, is there any specific plan for visiting the galleries, so that people can catch up with the group if they can't get at the meeting point on time? Many thanks.

    March 20, 2014

    • Martyn L.

Thanks for the reply John. I'll be outside the main entrance of the gallery at the end from 8:45pm - 9:00pm then members have the options of joining us at a nearby pub.

Hi Martyn - do you know if you can take photos in the museum?

    March 17, 2014

    • John

You are usually okay to take "personal" pictures on a "phone" although it is not encouraged. No flash under any circumstances. It is usually best just to ask the Gallery Assistant if you can. There is one in every room.

They sell postcards of the paintings in the shop. Colour not always as bright as actual painting.
