Mayfair is a part of London that most people know only as an expensive area south of the Oxford Street shops such as Selfridges. But it is much more than this. Mayfair is the original Georgian London.
It was once described as the area which “enclosed more intelligence and ability, to say nothing of wealth and beauty, than the world had ever collected into such a space before.” It also has the most expensive property on the British Monopoly Board!
But this is an area not only steeped in history and historical figures but is also the location of the homes and workplaces of some modern day superstars.
During this walk we shall discover where the rich and famous rubbed shoulders with vagabonds and prostitutes. We will visit two of London's most famous squares and learn of their history.
For fans of music we will “bump into” such diverse figures as Handel, Hendrix and Moon. From music icons to The Icon; we will visit the home where Princess Diana spent time with her last love.
We will also find out about another lady who was cast aside by a future King. And we will see the pub whose landlady was a certain Material Girl.
Finally, where's the token murder and mayhem you've come to expect on our walks? Well on this walk we will explore a link to none other than Jack the Ripper!
After our very successful previous guided walks, we have once again employed the services of Daniella; a qualified City of London Tour Guide who will bring all these stories to life. I will of course be there to help out with the organisation of the event and to arrange a nice pub afterwards. So why not join our regulars for a walk exploring the lives of the rich and famous in old and modern times.
John
