Saturday Pub-Crawl near Trafalgar Square (5th January)

  • January 5, 2013 · 7:15 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Note 1: PLEASE CAN EVERYONE KINDLY OBSERVE THE WAITING LIST AS WE ARE AT CAPACITY FOR THIS EVENT

Note 2: We highly recommend that new members arrive relatively early in the night (ideally by 8pm when we'll still be in the first pub). After 8pm most members start arriving, so it will be easier to introduce you to the group if you arrive by this time.

Join us on Saturday for a pub Crawl in Whitehall (this is the street directly in front of Trafalgar Square). We've chosen this area to organise a pub crawl as surprisingly the pubs are usually quiet on a Saturday night, so it's ideal for a large pub crawl group. It also has some great pubs that are close together. We've written the times we'll be in each pub if you plan to join us later in the night.

Pub Crawl Plan

The full details for the pub crawl are written below:

First though, we should mention that in case of any difficulties on the night you can contact us on[masked] (mobile switched on until 9.30pm).

The organisers will be holding helium balloons in the first two pubs so you can recognise us and the members will be wearing small fun stickers/badges.

First pub and meeting place – The Clarence

We will meet at 7.15pm in The Clarence (53, Whitehall, London, SW1A 2HP). This is a great pub with a rich history - once frequented by literary greats such as George Bernard Shaw, TS Eliot and Sir John Betjeman. The current design is more modern, although it still retains a wonderfully intimate and cosy feel.

Getting to the first pub
The Clarence is easy to find as it's only 100 metres directly in front of Trafalgar Square. The nearest tube stations are Charring Cross and the Embankment. You'll also find that Trafalgar Square is served by dozens of bus routes.

Second pub – Old Shades

We will leave The Clarence at approximately 8.15pm and head for the Old Shades (37 Whitehall, Westminster, London SW1A 2BX). The Old Shades is just a few doors up from the first pub. It's a splendidly old fashioned Victorian pub, built in a very impressive Flemish-Gothic style. If you are not arriving until we reach this second pub then please click here for a map link.

Third pub - Silver Cross

We will leave the Old Shades at approximately 9.15pm and head just a few metres along  to our third pub named the Silver Cross (33 Whitehall, London, SW1A 2BX). This pub is very popular on the meetup scene and consistently receives very positive feedback from London meetup members. It's a traditionally warm and spacious pub that can hold up to 500 people. It's also one of the oldest in central London.

Fourth venue - Further details to follow

We will leave the Old Shades at appoximately 10.15pm and then head a short distance, just past Whitehall, to our final venue named the Albannach (66 Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 5DS). This a a very popular London party bar open until 3am for those who want to party until late in the night. The Albannach has provided our group free entry when they normally charge £5 after 10pm. We'll be arriving at the Albannach approximately 10.30pm (our free entry entry period is extended as long as we arrive before 11pm, which we will).

We hope this has explained everything. However, if you have any queries then please do not hesitate to contact us by email.

cheers
Martyn and Terry

How does the wait list thingy work? I presume it's not gonna happen tonight and should start making alternative arrangements?

Maybe the 48 people in the wait list we should meet somewhere else! Lol!

Seriously please let me know how the wait list work . Do I get a notification if am finally in the top 100 ;)

Hi Maggie, I am also new to the group. What happens if RSVP'd people do not show up? Is there an attendee checklist? What if a waiting list person shows up? Just trying to understand how this works:) Thanks.

Hi Erkut, Members who no-show to meetup events are a major problem for groups. However, we have a strict policy of removing members from the group who no-show on two occasions (unless they inform us of a very good reason why they couldn't attend and didn't change their RSVP - but these a rare exceptions). We do keep an attendance sheet at most events so it's usually very clear who has been a 'no-show'. kind regards, Terry.

    Hi there

I joined the group over a week ago so I was on the main list. Yesterday I added a guest and now I've been put on the waiting list. Is there any chance to go back onto the main list? I didn't know this would happen and assumed I could bring a friend. I'm pretty disappointed as I've been wanting to come to one of these for ages and I'm going to be very busy the next few months.

Hi Martyn and terry is this night fully booked out or can I come along!

    January 5, 2013

    • Maggie L.

Hi Dee, as you can see, we have an extensive waiting list at the moment, but join it anyway, in case we have some drop-outs later on. If you don't make it onto the list this time, we run pub crawls and other events throughout the year, so you'll get to come along to one soon (just remember to sign up early!). Take care, Maggie :o)
