We’re just emailing all the members of our Friends in London Meetup Group to let you know about a number of changes we are making in relation to how the group is organised,
Despite the fact that our events remain consistently well-attended, our regular weekend-nights-out will now be completely free as collecting the small organisation fee is just too much hassle.
Removing the organsisation fee is not something we have been forced into as our events remain very popular and our membership is rapidly increasing. However, there are a very small vocal minority who are clearly unhappy about us charging an organisation fee for our regular nights out. Being repeatedly asked to justify charging a small organisation fee is affecting our enjoyment of hosting meetups. These small minority do not seem to realise that running two meetup groups (this one and also our completely free nightlife meetup that we have run for three years) does take a lot of time and effort as we have a combined total of over three thousand members. But that's just the way it is, so we think the change is for the best.
From now on, only for events such as treasure hunts, guided tours and other special events will there be an organisation fee. Our regular Friday-After-Work-Drinks and other Saturday-Drinks will now be completely free.
You may have also noticed that we have introduced a number of new assistant organisers to the group. We've known these people for a long time and they are all very friendly. We're very grateful to have them on board as we need the help because the group is continually growing in numbers. So please do not hesitate to sign-up to the events that they will be scheduling in the future because they will be very well organised.
Finally, you may want to make a note in your diaries of our free Christmas Party on Saturday 17th December. We've managed to book an entire two-floor pub in Kensington for a private Christmas Party just for our members. There will be a free live band and free bar snacks at this event, so it should be a good night. The event details will be posted on the site in the near future. We'll also be hosting numerous meetups in November and December. So we look forward to seeing you at one of our future meetups.
all the best
