Hells Gate backpacking trip ('Not attending' RSVP's are unnecessary)

HELL’S GATE BACKPACK

Sat - Sun, Mar 30 - 31
Leader: Craig Barnett ([masked])

 Length: 14 to 16 miles R/T
Phone:[masked]

Rating: Moderate Plus
To carpool to the starting point, meet in the north end of the Target parking lot, 16825 E. Shea Blvd, 7:00 AM

This OVERNIGHT TRIP should be a great backpack. We will access this hike from the Payson side. This 8-mile trail into Hell’s Hole is, for the first four miles, either a narrow trail or an old dirt road. Either the trail or the road will get you to the edge of the wilderness area which is marked by a sign about four miles into the hike. Overall, the hike is pretty strenuous (up and down), although there are some fairly long sections of relatively flat land. After you reach the four-mile mark, the trail generally descends from there into the canyon. The last .5 mile is really quite steep and loose in places.

If you like, you can bring a fishing rod to fish for your dinner.

RSVP DIRECTLY with hike leader - contact details above.

If you are current on your $15 annual membership (hike leader will have list) the hike is free - otherwise bring $5.00 cash for the hike plus ca$h for carpooling and after-hike replentishment.

I enjoyed hiking with all of you. As to getting off trail, it happens to everyone one time or another. Daniel Boone once said 'I can't say as ever I was lost, but I was bewildered once for three days..'

A great experience, mostly due to the people... I owe almost each and every one of you thanks of some sort, in addition to letting me observe to learn more about backpacking styles... Craig for the great hike; Sandy, for riding with me, letting me use your filter, and answering my many questions, and the Sport Beans; Kurt, for letting me know about equipment (you guys would really laugh about my sleeping bag... not brave enough to share details about it); Rebecca and James, for the gel on the way out; Randy, for letting me catch-up to you when I strayed off the trail and as I struggled with the uphill; Sally, for the hug when I finally made it out, and sharing it wasn't always easy for you, though I doubt I'll ever reach your skill level (or Brenda's). ~A

Well it looks like we should have some great weather for the trip, and a good size group as well.

So weather is looking fabulous. Just double checking - there will absolutely be H2O at the bottom where we are camping - correct? I am starting to gather my gear - anything in particular I should know / take / plan for?
