Kill two birds with one stone on this combination weekend.
We will be car camping close to the Lava Caves near Flagstaff this weekend, allowing multiple options for activities.
The preferred schedule will be:
Friday afternoon: Lava Caves, a ½ mile long cave formed by lava, Friday evening car camp and merriment.
Saturday: Day hike to Kendrick’s Peak where you will get 360 views of Northern Arizona at a cool 10,500 feet. From here you can see the rim of the Grand Canyon. But wait, why “see” when you can “do”?! Saturday night we will enjoy a pleasant evening with friends around the camp fire.
Sunday: we will car pool to the Grand Canyon and day hike from Hermits Rest down part of the Hermit’s Trail and out onto the Esplanade along Boucher Trail, ending at phenomenal views down into the Grand Canyon below Yuma Point. Hermit’s Trail descends 1500ft otherwise the trail is mostly flat. We will return the same way with a detour to Dripping Spring along the way. We will return to Flagstaff to collect the cars and optionally grab a bite to eat.
Entrance to GC is $25/vehicle, so let’s pack ‘em in!
If you are not current on your $15 annual friends Hiking Club membership the hike is $5.00.
Remember ca$h for carpool contribution, GCNP entrance fee and optional after-hike replentishment.
Note: "not attending" RSVP's are unnecessary.
