This is a remote part of the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation. This area is close to the old logging town of Maverick which is now a ghost town. The area is abundant with ponderosa pine and wildlife; from elk, deer and maybe even some black bear. We will have a 4-5 hour trip to the point we start hiking down into Paddy Creek. From there we will hike to the Ten of Diamonds Ranch and make camp there for two nights. From this location we will be able to explore the Black River area. Fishing in this area is very good, so if you choose, bring your pole.
This area does require permits which can be purchased online. This will be a great way to spend your Memorial Day weekend, exploring an area of Arizona few have seen.
NOTE: Not a beginner’s backpack - If attending, RSVP BY TELEPHONE ONLY, carpooling TBD
If you are not current on your $15 annual friends Hiking Club membership the hike is $5.00.
Remember ca$h for carpool contribution and optional after-hike replentishment.
Note: "not attending" RSVP's are unnecessary.
