Woodchute Mountain hike - Near Prescott

Woodchute Mountain Day Hike - Prescott National Forest

Saturday, May 31st

Leader:  Rich Flammang  ([masked])

Length:  8 miles R/T

Phone: [masked]

Rating:  Mostly Easy*

MEET in Denny’s parking lot, SW corner of I-17 and Bell Road, 7:00 AM to carpool -

See carpool guidelines >

Elev Change:  600’

Beginning at the Potato Patch Campground we do a gentle climb through the ponderosa pine forest coming upon a long ridge running toward the Woodchute Mountain where there are spectacular views of the Verde Valley, Sedona area, Mogollon Rim and the San Francisco Peaks.  We’ll cross a saddle and go through a really nice meadow area as we start the final 400’ ascent up to the mountain top.  The views from here also include the Verde River, Sycamore Canyon, Bill Williams Mountain and Kendrick Mountain.  This hike is pretty easy, offers some cooler air, panoramic views and will be a nice escape for the day.

*One spot is Moderate

Late lunch in Prescott after the hike!
