We will be leaving the Valley early because it is approximately 5 hours to the trail head.

Friday afternoon:  We will be taking Trail 94 and making base camp at the tree islands on the first day - this is about 3 miles.

On Saturday there will be two options to hike.  One group can hike to Baldy summit (all on-trail - about 8.5 miles round-trip) while the other is going to (try to) follow the spring to its source (off-trail bushwhack of unknown distance).  We will return to the base camp that evening .

The area has beautiful fir and aspen trees, awesome meadows and cool springs.  Be prepared for rain.  This time of year is monsoon season.  It may rain in the afternoons for a couple of hours. There are elk, deer, and timber wolves in the area.  And, yes, some black bears.

Sunday we will hike out, stop for lunch in Pinetop or nearby and return to the valley.
