Bear Jaw -Abineau Loop Hike (Near Flagstaff)

BEAR JAW - ABINEAU CANYON LOOP Day Hike & Optional Car Camp - Flagstaff

Sat - Sun, Sept 6 - 7

Leader:  Don Mantell  ([masked])

Length:  7.4 mile loop

Phone:  [masked]

Rating:  Moderate

MEET at Denny’s parking lot, SW corner of 1-17 and Bell Road, 6:30 AM

 Elev Change:  2,000'

Please RSVP by September 4th to participate – Will you be hiking & camping or just joining us for the hike?

This hike will be at the cool elevation of the San Francisco Peaks on the north slope. On a clear day the Grand Canyon is visible ninety miles away.  This hike is a loop hike with a 1.5 mile (no vehicle) dirt road connecting the two trails at the top. The trails are moderately steep and travel through beautiful stands of mixed conifer and aspens.

Note:  A barbecue is planned at the end of the hike so bring some beverages, a chair and something to burn on the grill (maybe a little something to share as well).

Note: Some will also be camping in the forest after the hike (no noisy campgrounds!) so feel free to bring your camping gear and escape the valley's inferno.

The hike won't be canceled due to rain, correct? Where will camp be set up?

Correct; and TBD - somewhere in the NF near the trailhead.

Saturday night is a campout - The hike is Saturday, as is the BBQ (which will be at the trailhead or nearby).

I checked with Don, the hike leader for you.
Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome on the hike.

    Thanks,
