ROCK SPRINGS DAYHIKE - Near Black Canyon City

  • Apr 25, 2009 · 9:00 AM

ROCK SPRINGS DAYHIKE- Near Black Canyon City Saturday, April 25th Leader: Randy Baker ([masked]) Length: 4.0 +/- miles Phone: [masked] Rating: Easy +
MEET in Denny’s parking lot, SW corner of I-17 and Bell Road, 9:00 AM
Please read the message board about membership & carpooling guidelines. Note: We do not offer 'maybe' as an RSVP option - that is intentional. If you are committed to attending the hike, and after clearing your calendar, please RSVP yes.. This hike utilizes portions of the new Black Canyon Trail System, which follows a prehistoric Native American pathway. We will start on the new Horseshoe Trail near Rock Springs, which heads west, gradually climbing through a saguaro forest before descending to the Agua Fria River. We will then follow the river downstream as it meanders through a canyon full of lush Cottonwoods and Sycamores. When reaching a bend known as Horseshoe Bar, we will follow an old mine road east up to the I-17 frontage road, and then head north to Rock Springs for lunch. Note the river may require shallow crossings, so plan on getting your feet wet. For more info see

I really enjoyed hiking with this group and sharing a meal afterwards. I'm looking forward to going on the next easy level hike.
