This hike utilizes portions of the new Black Canyon Trail System, which follows a prehistoric Native American pathway. We will start on the new Horseshoe Trail near Rock Springs, which heads west, gradually climbing through a saguaro forest before descending to the Agua Fria River. We will then follow the river downstream as it meanders through a canyon full of lush Cottonwoods and Sycamores. When reaching a bend known as Horseshoe Bar, we will follow an old mine road east up to the I-17 frontage road, and then head north to Rock Springs for lunch.
Note the river may require shallow crossings, so plan on getting your feet wet.
