Fantastic weather and snowy woods. Hilly hike in the snow was challenging for me. I completed it with coach John.

Rose, This is the web site we had talked about and for you others that have Garmin GPS's this maybe of interest. This web site has most trails across the country free to download. I use the USA TOPO file that is overlaid onto my garmin map. It includes the AT, Long Trail and all other major and minor trail systems. Its very easy and free to download.

Mike, thanks for the link. I'm sure it will be very helpful to us. Nice hiking with you yesterday.

Rose, I got home safely. If you were doing the first part of that hike in snowshoes, I wonder what level you would rate it? As for cross country skiing, I would wish for a 5K path that was flat to moderate. Could you recommend any place in the State Forest. Thanks for yesterday, the path that I was on and the company were great.

Irene, I see you haven't signed up for the Snowshoeing in MSSF Meetup. http://www.meetup.com... That would be a good place to look for enthusiasts. There is also another one for people who have or need extra showshoes http://www.meetup.com...

Hi Irene, I'm glad to know you made it home safe and sound. I saw that your car was gone but hearing from you is reassuring. I am very inexperienced at snowshoeing so I can't offer a rating. I like the idea of adding that to the information that we provide and will try to find out for you. Good information from Steve V. the Bentley Loop Trail is a lovely trail. You will enjoy it! Have you considered the bike paths for cross country? Best of luck, nice hiking with you.

Rose, I have the GPS file of our hike but cannot find a link to send an attachment. Can you send me a e-mail and then I can send back the GPX file.

ok, another try. Not easy doing this on tiny devices. I won't press enter until I am finished. You can contact me at [masked] for this. Your are right, I do want the gpx format. Bill and I are working on creating a map. But we cannot post one until the trail itself has been approved, and DCR has reviewed and approved the map. This will take some time, but I promise we are all working very hard to get this completed. Thanks so much for contributing to this effort! I really appreciate your taking the time to share your tracks with me.

Great hike through the snow. I know Mike's GPS showed we were over 5 miles and we were still at least a half mile from the finish.

I will have a few blaze orange vests for those of you who do not have one. It's also a good idea to wear a brightly colored hat. Looking forward to seeing all of you!

I have snowshoes but I must pick up my grandchildren from Manomet Elem. at 1 PM. I will bring compass and just walk to 11:45. Can someone print me a map? So hoping to be out in this weather. I do not have crampons but I do have poles to share.

We do not yet have a map and this is not a well marked trail. It would be very easy to get lost if you were to try to find your way out alone. As a group hike on this trail it would be best to stay together for the duration of the hike.

don't worry about "snow shoes" etc. Just wear hiking boots and go for it. It won't be a problem, and it should be a really lovely hike. Go for it.

If we are going to need snow shoes for this hike then I will have to cancel my plans to hike tomorrow because I don't have any, and I have never gone snowshoeing before. I will see you on another hike, one of these days.

    December 17, 2013

    • Rose

Hi Cheri, I don't have snow shoes either. It will be an adventure if you choose to come. Hope to see you!

Just thought....what about hunting? Is the area that we are hiking in, a no hunting area? Thanks!

    December 15, 2013

    • John B.

Primitive firearms season for deer started December 16th and runs through December 31st. There is active hunting in the area. Hunters during the primitive firearm season are required by law to wear a minimum of 500 square inches of blaze orange clothing on head, chest and back. It is unclear if non-hunters are subject to the same regulations but it certainly seems prudent to wear as much blaze orange as you can.

Is there anyone interested in cross country skiing this week or other weekdays through the season, someplace?
Would like to find a cross country group to connect with. AMC has very limited trips and they are booked.

    Any suggestions from someone?

Made it back from Florida in time to change from my flip flops to snow shoes.
