Ready to put Flash behind us and move forward with the canvas element?

Behance will provide pizza and drinks from 6:30 - 7:00 PM and the class will begin at 7:00 PM.

Summary: This two-hour class is for front-end developers. We'll discuss the current and potential uses of Canvas in HTML5 applications. Using Javascript, we'll learn how to create interactive graphics directly in HTML -- no Flash needed! We'll explore writing code for drawing, detecting user input for interactivity, and building animations.

Goal: The goal of this class is to get you started with canvas and give you a roadmap of resources to start you off on your own self-learning process.

Format: The format of this class will be presentation. You may wish to bring a laptop, but it is not required. The instructor will go over the basics of canvas, discuss the libraries briefly, review example implementations and demonstrate some live coding examples. The course materials will include take-home lists of relevant examples, resources, online tutorials and libraries.

Instructor: Robyn Overstreet is a web developer and training professional. She teaches web technologies in a wide variety of contexts, from corporate trainings to undergraduate courses, and currently teaches for Zend Technologies and Marakana, Inc., as well as consulting independently. She holds a Masters degree from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program.

Recommended Prerequisite: To benefit from this class you will need to have experience with HTML, along with a basic background in JavaScript or ActionScript.
