Frugal Fashionista Pot Luck February Swap

Please join us for another awesome clothing swap on Sunday February 27th, 2011! It will be held at the Franconia Governmental Center in Alexandria.

In the spirit of sharing, please bring a dish for all to share! Our potlucks have been an amazing success in the past and we'd like to keep the tradition going. Please being a dish rather than cookies or sweets. Something to wow everyone!

Entry is free but please bring some tip money to tip the Spa Treat Vendors if you choose to pay them a visit! Mary Kay and Avon will be available for sale as well as some jewelry. Avon directly supports Domestic Violence Shelters and Brest Cancer Research but on top of that, 10% of my sales are also donated to the shelter! Every item that you buy will help in this area! We also hope to have a DJ to help make this event sparkle even more! Maybe even some local talents trying to get their name out there;)

Please ensure that the clothing, shoes and accessories that you bring are in top shape! Everyone has been great about it so far but if you do happen to come across an item that isn't swappable, there will be a tub for you to take them off the table and place inside. These sorts of items will be recycled for crafters. Nothing ever goes to waste in our group;)

Everyone is welcome to come - please rsvp only if you are sure you will make it. We are imposing a waiting list over 150 to keep it from becoming too crowded. Sign up early to make sure you get in! Our swaps have been filling up like crazy. We are the largest clothing swap in the Metro D.C. area with well over 600 members! We can comfortably fit about 150 at this particular venue.

Have your makeup, hair and nails done by one of our awesome glam assistants!

This swap will start at 1:00 and run through 4:00, leaving you to swap for a longer period of time.

When you arrive, drop your dish off at the food table to your right and then sort your clothing by size - all tables are marked to make it easy;)

All remaining clothing, shoes and accessories will be donated to local domestic violence shelters so this really is a great way to not only clean out your closets and save the landfills but also a wonderful event to donate to people in need.

Can't wait to host you ladies!

See you at the swap!

Kudos to all of the organizers who pulled off a great swap even in the face of a formidable onslaught of fashionistas all arriving at the same time! My guest and I both had a great time--glad to clean out our closets, glad someone else wants our stuff, glad to get some new-to-us stuff, glad that even if no one wants our stuff, someone who needs it may get to use it. Always enjoy the food and the camarderie--it's a marvelous idea, and fun to participate in.

A little bit crowded but a great event; people are very friendly and I found some really nice clothes and boots! (I'm even wearing one of my new sweaters today.) Organizers did a great job with a very packed room!

I had a nice time. I don't mind the cramped quarters at all...everyone was really sweet and considerate. I would love it, however, if t-shirts were banned from the swap. There were SO many items, that people need to be a little more discerning about what they bring and dump on the tales. I saw items with stains, rips, and a lot of old t-shirts. Come on ladies! Drop these things off at the thrift store, don't use the clothing swap as a place to unload your old, sweaty tees! The majority of stuff was lovely, but I think it would have helped minimize the avalanche of clothing if there was a little more discretion about what people brought. Thanks for all the hard work, Organizers.

lots of fun, clothes didnt stay in neat little piles but who cares, (who would stand around folding all day anyway) I really liked it. I wish they'd do it every month.

Thanks to the organizers for all the hard work. There was a lot of casual clothes (jeans, shirts, pants, sweaters), sizing was a bit hard to sort out because there were piles upon piles of clothes in no order on tables. Some smalls/larges slipped through to the medium area too. If you like searching for a bargain and wading though mountains of clothes and your fellow swappers, you'll have a good time. There were quite a few older, dated items that must have been around a while that no one wanted- even for free.
Too bad there isn't more room to sort by type, but free is free. It kind of reminded me a garage sale, but no prices of course! A great way to recycle your clothes and add a few pieces to your closet without having to part with cash. Pot luck is a nice added bonus!

This was my first FFCS and it was great! the staff was helpful, the other women were very nice, the food was good, and I even got a ride down there from a fellow fashionista, Karen. i found some great items for work, a nice bag, hat, earrings, a necklace, and 2 pairs of shoes.

This was the first clothing swap I've attended and I had a good time. I got a cute victoria's secret bathing suit top and a sweater! I have to say though that I was a bit shocked by all the people and stuff - it seemed chaotic.

Great turnout and good selection of clothing, etc. The sizes on the tables was not adhered to by the participants, however, e.g., small items on the large table.

It was my first time and it was fantastic! I was very impressed - with the selection, the sheer volume of items, the kindness of the fellow swappers, the kindness of the organizers . . . even the food. Great job! THANK YOU!

I loved everything about this meetup! Free clothing, free massage, all the clothing you could want and a buffet table! I can't think of any place I'd rather be than at one of your clothing swaps! Even with the big crowd at some points, I still say 5 STARS! (Would give it more if I could!)

As always, a great way to spend a few hours on a Sunday. The hosts do a fantastic job to create a friendly atmosphere. I even had a chair massage. I am looking forward to the next one.

I had so much fun and I scored some great clothes. I brought a friend and she also found some great items, including a cool leather jacket. And, the food was good, too.
I can't wait for the April swap.
Thanks Kim and all the organizers who worked so hard to make this event a smashing event.

Thanks so much for the hard work, ladies. If I could improve the swap it would be have more tables so it wasn't such a mountain of clothes. Maybe we coud spill into the hallway?

Thanks to the organizers for their hard work. Another success! I'm glad so many people got to come, but there were times the room was so packed it was pretty unpleasant. The medium area was especially nuts, but kudos to whoever wrangled up another table -- it improved things a bit.

We currently have 2 vans to hul the stuff away in... they were both jam packed FULL!Maybe we need to buy a truck for this LOL Thanks to all who helped set up and break down! I know that we're having very large groups and many want to swap more frequently. Again, I encourage you to think about hosting at your location. Whether it's your house, your apartment party room, etc. This will give multiple locations to make it easier on some and also allow for more swaps to take place. Organized swaps have been about every six weeks but could be weekly if we as a group take it on. Kudos to Kelly for hosting in Feb. Who wants to do March?

If you decide to switch swaps and go to Kelly's rather than the regular one, simply update your rsvp;) Limited to the first 50 rsvp's.

It turns out that travel for work just got confirmed so I had to RSVP no for myself and 2 friends. There are now 3 open spots for whoever can get to them first. Can't wait to be at the one in April!

I am on the list and I was planning on coming to the 27th swap but if there is one in Bowie I will change my reply to go to that one just because that is so much closer to me. I'll be watching.

    1 · February 11, 2011

  • Kim - Clothing Swap F.

Yes, it will be open to all who would like to go! I'm trying to schedule it now but am having problems with the meetup site- Ugh!

    February 11, 2011

  • Tracey

    Kim-
Will you open it up to those not on wait list, if a desired amount of swappers is not reached (makes for a better swap...the more ppl the better)? I would attend as Bowie is closer for me. Most of the ladies, I've met live further out in VA (Dulles,Woodbridge etc.). I have a pile of clothes/shoes (still adding to the pile) waiting for a swap.
