Frugal Fashionista ALL SIZES March Clothing Swap

Welcome to a whole new way of shopping... Swap - Don't shop -for all the clothing, shoes and accessories you can take home!

NOTE: THIS WILL NOT BE HELD AT THE HIGH SCHOOL - IT WILL BE AT THE GOVERNMENTAL CENTER...

This swap is for all sizes!!!

Sizes 0 - 30

For those of you who keep telling me to provide lunch EAT BEFORE YOU COME. This is a clothing swap -not a luncheon. If I do get a sponsor to provide food -that's a bonus, not a requirement.

Thanks for understanding;)

Please bring at least 5 pieces of clothing and 2 accessories (jewelry, handbags, scarves etc.)  to add to our tables. "The early bird gets the worm"

Drop off your clothing @ 11:30- swap time begins promptly at 1:00(not before)Volunteers -please come at 10:30 to set up tables to be ready to collect clothing at 11:30.

CHECK IN TABLE:

I or a designated volunteer will be sitting at a table where each guest will check in and pay their $7.00 donation (If you haven't paid before hand via paypal). Prepay $5.00 to [masked] Please bring cash for the raffles as we have a few things that would be great to receive from various businesses.

After you drop off your items, you are expected to leave and come back at 1:00 unless you have been PRE-DESIGNATED to help set up. Please form a line outside of the door. I will open the swap up 5 minutes early to those who volunteered to help set up. Please ensure that you actually helped before you start swapping - Each volunteer can choose 4 items for themselves in the 5 minutes given.

PRINT OUT YOUR RECEIPT FOR ENTRY TO SWAP!

or bring $7 cash to the meetup. Please bring exact change.

Half of the money will go to RAINN (Rape Abuse Incest National Network) and the other half will go to group maintenance & drinks. Swap from 1PM - 3PM Please come on time if you want to get the good stuff before it's gone. ALSO: If everyone if done swapping early, we will CLOSE UP SHOP EARLY... The start time is 1PM... (not 2PM, not 3PM) We had an few angry swappers who showed up just before 3:00 and were unable to swap becasue we were wrapping things up...

I SAY AGAIN - START TIME IS 1PM...

Make sure clothing is clean, no stains, no holes, rips or tears and no broken buttons or zippers. If you would be PROUD to pass it on to your girlfriends, than you should bring it. Please do not bring undergarments unless they are NEW WITH TAGS... we're looking for clothing from any season for this swap. If you should find something unswappable on any of the tables, please remove it. No one should be disappointed because it's everyone's jobs to police the tables for non-wearables;)

If you are bringing guests, please ensure to add them to your RSVP.

Last, but not least, bring your swaptastik attitude and plan to come and have a blast!

Please take pictures of yourselves with your swap finds and post it on meetup and facebook! We'd love to see what you all have found!

Happy Swapping!

Kim

Please comment if you can help set up or break down... I would ideally like about 10 people so if you want to help, let me know right away... the first 10 people who respond will be my helpers... Thanks!

Need one person to come early (Like 11:30) with ice for the drinks. Please let me know if that person is you. (We need about 4 bags and you wouldn't have to pay to get in)

Thanks!

What is the best way to get to the location via public transportation?

    March 12, 2014

    • Dianna M.

Franconia/Springfield is about a mile away from the Center heading north. During the week there is frequent bus service along Franconia Road, but only occasionally on weekends.

As I had mentioned before, last Sunday was my first ever swap so it was also my first time as a volunteer. I didn't expect so much conversation after the swap. I find myself enjoying the conversation and laughing at some of the comments. Kudos to Kim. You pull it together once a month? I couldn't pull it together every two months. See you all next month as I am now hooked on swapping!

Does anyone have a lead on where we can get cupcakes donated to the swap? If so, let me know!

To the swapper who brought the anal massager and placed it on the accessories table at todays swap - please don't;) That was pretty horrific. I've seen some crazy things donated over the past 5 years but that had to take the cake...

This is a comment of concern. I'm waiting for the swap to start. I have loved this swap and have been coming for a couple years. As i watch the volunteers walking out with bags of stuff, I am very disappointed and bummed. It's pretty upsetting to see this happen and it looks like way more than 4 items are leaving without regard to the stated rules and so blatant. Sad day.

    3 · March 23, 2014

    • Shawntia

I volunteered as well and I felt like everyone followed the rules and took 4 items!!!!

      4 · March 23, 2014

    • Toya

I was in line right by the side door and could see some of the volunteers fill their bags with more than 4 items. We also saw one girl walk out with her bag filled to the top and came back in with the same empty bag. Also I did not see anyone go in through the side door taking clothes before the swap started as I was standing right there. Nonetheless, I still had a good time and look foward to the next one.

Awesome news about the donation to RAINN! Can you include info about how we can make additional donation? Same with shelter. Sometimes I have things that can't wait till the swap. Thank you so much!

    2 · March 23, 2014

    • Kim - Clothing Swap F.

Dianna is the one who normally takes the clothes to the shelter but she has been unable to for the past few swaps. They do not publicize where the shelters are for security reasons but there is a place in Falls Church that I used to go with the clothes called "Joseph's Coat" They are a thrift store but they work hand in hand with Bethany House of NOVA and provide the women from the shelter with vouchers for free clothing - they also donate a portion of their proceeds to Bethany House -

So nice to meet so many terrific ladies at the "check-in" desk. I hope you all came away with some great scores. Sincerest thanks to Kim, our fearless organizer; Kat, our rockin' DJ; and all the selfless volunteers -- veterans and newbies -- who came early to set up and stayed late to clean up. As always, it was a great, great time and I am thrilled to the gills to have come away with almost nothing (my goal was to NOT take things up). Looking forward to outfitting you all with more fabulous duds in April! Cheers!

We raised $400 for RAINN (Rape Abuse & Incest National Network) today! And donated about 15 bags of clothing to the domestic violence shelter!!! Thanks Sarah Jean for handling the clothing after the swap! My poor car couldn't handle one more item!!! Thank you to all of the sponsors who donated such wonderful raffle prizes so we could raise that money!

    3 · March 23, 2014

  • Kim - Clothing Swap F.

I was very pleased with the way the swap turned out - especially with over 100 people in that little room! Thanks all for bearing with us and not complaining about the size- we take what we can get. My volunteers are all rock stars in my eyes! I can't do this swap without you so please know how much you are all appreciated! Next month however, we need to make a definite list of who is helping as it was a little out of hand getting set up with so many helpers... Not that I don't appreciate your time and talents - it just needs to be more streamlined for my sanity;) Welcome to all the new comers! Glad you found us and had such a great time! I have received sooo many positive emails - of course there will always be someone who is unhappy for one reason or another, but that's okay - overall I think it was an awesome swap and I met some FABULOUS new people! Please remember to visit our sponsors and give them some business as they are the ones who provide our swag, décor and raffle prizes!

The room is awfully small for 150 people

    March 23, 2014

    • Kim - Clothing Swap F.

Linda, yes...it was VERY crowded - we normally hold the "All Sizes" swap at the West Springfield High School but were unable to get on their calendar - You'll find that next month there will be tons of room! I am also working with Kat, our DJ, to secure another large space for relatively no money so we will have options - thanks for bearing with us! Glad you made it out~

Cant wait for today's swap! Exciting news... I found a store yesterday in Occoquan that had the most adorable window displays called Polka Dot Divas - I asked them for the name and number of the person who creates their window displays and got a hold of him last night! He is willing to work with us to create table displays for the swaps! So excited! He is so creative and has some wonderful fashionista designs that he makes with chicken wire and paper machet! Just wait til you see them! It;s gonna be great! See you ladies in a few hours!
