Ukulele Festival of South Florida, August 18, 2012

Check out for the latest details

Concerts, music workshops, great vendors and raffles. A great chance to learn new technique, hear some great music, and pick up (or even win) a new uke and other gear.

Admission is $35 for adults, $5 for kids 12 and under, free for kids 8 and under.

Announced performers:  The Barnkickers,  Uncle Zac,  Ty Olopai, and more...  Plus each of the meetup groups will have a chance to perform.

In order to gauge how many of us are going, I thought I'd add this as a meetup.

Ty did a fantastic job with this year's Festival. I arrived around noon, and attended two great workshops in the afternoon. My favorite was Steve Boisen's workshop on Chord Solos. He is a fantastic, clear teacher. The evening concert was wonderful. I brought my wife and my grandmother, and they loved it too. Some (though not all) of the highlights of the concert were Big Jim Allen's "Toes in the Sand," Uncle Zac's "She Ain't Rose", Keith & Luna's "Rolling in the Deep" and "Rainbow Pas de Deux", The Barnkickers' "One Less Tear," "Bravery" and "Icarus", and the sweet island sounds of Maupauna and Ty, complete with some hula accompaniment on a few numbers. As we were leaving, my sweet grandmother -- an absolute newcomer to the ukulele world -- said, "Count me in for next year!"

Do we need to buy tickets in advance, or can we get them when we arrive?

Ty has posted a little more info on the performers on the Festival webpage ( Since he's let the cat out of the bag, I'll say that the line-up of performers includes our own Luna Jade and Keith Cronin! So great!

Gang -- The Ukulele Festival is just over 6 weeks away. Has anyone else decided they are going to attend. If anyone in our group would like to perform (either as a part of a large group or in a smaller one) please step forward! It is going to be very difficult for me to host, or even attend, a meetup between now and August 18, so I can't commit to performing. But that should not stop others of you from doing so. Kyoko, Patrick, Dave.. anyone interested in heading this up?

Ruthie, anyone from an absolute beginner to Jake S. would be welcome at our group. Having watched your sweet version of Hey Soul Sister, I can say you'd be a fantastic addition. Very nicely done!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
