Procession of the Species Celebration 2012 (Fursuiting Event)

http://www.procession.org/

NO SIGNS OR TSHIRTS WITH TEXT ON THEM!

NO "OH MURR" SHIRTS OR ANYTHING OF THE LIKE!

BE ON YOUR BEST BEHAVIOR! Sorry guys, things have got complicated and the people running the parade are very upset we are coming.

This is a PERFECT EVENT for furries and fursuiters! :D It's a parade / fair all about animals! NON-furries dress up as animals and celebrate nature. We will contribute to the celebration by putting on our fursuits, tails and ears to join in!

The parade starts really late at 4:30pm. You will need to organize carpools to arrive early to gather a suit up. I will try to find a place for all of us to gather. We should be in the parade together.

>>>>IF YOU ARE NOT IN FURSUIT, PLEASE BE WILLING TO BE A SPOTTER! Otherwise, they won't let you in the parade since it's for costuming. <<<

MAKE SURE YOU BRING 2 CANS OF FOOD FOR THE DRIVE! It's part of the registration price.

EDIT: Group has been registered under "Furlife". 30 spots.

Procession participants will meet at the intersection of Legion Way and Cherry Street. All suited up ready BEFORE 4:30pm. 4pm at the latest.

When you show up, Tell them you're with the FURLIFE group in the EARTH section.

ALSO: We'll try to organize carpools since it's so far away. Please let me know who's willing to provide rides and where from!

Brook: 0/2 - From Kent

Blaidd Gwyn: 0/3 - From South Seattle

EDIT: Pre parade meet up for suiting and preparing for the parade: http://www.meetup.com/furlife/events/60514112

    Max: Oh :x You mean The Olympian... never mind ^o^;

    April 30, 2012

  • MabelSyrup

Max: I looked on the site and I wasn't able to find any pictures of the 2012 parade yet, only the 2012 "Illuminated Ball"

5-starred on the basis of "the part we organized" being top-notch.
The pre-party and after-party situation was nice, we were amazing with the crowd, and I personally got a chuckle out of ed's dino in a "save the animals" procession. A little late? :3

If anyone can come across any news stories on this event, please send them to me. There was TV news crews there. Also, I think the Procession group asked the Olympian to not take pictures of us. There is a HUGE gallery of pictures on their sight, but not ONE of us.

Christofur, The speech you saw on the website is the one that the director was referring to in the reply from him I posted. I also sent you an email message via furlife with additional details... ~C>

Siberhamster - please post a link to your POS speech. I looked and only found Eli's speech. Thank you.

The parade was ok. That centipede kept getting in the way and then the earth came out of nowhere at the end. I'm glad the guy in charge let us be in the parade, becuase Karma doesn't play nice. That parade was LONG. Holey moley, at every turn i was like is it over yet? But regaurdless I still had a really fun time! Again, thanks to Drea and Brook for bringing me.

  • Vessi

Didnt start to great, with all the drama, but after that it was fun ^.^ i had a great time

  • Christofur

The creator of the parade has his very specific vision of it - I don't think we are the only group who has run crosswise of him. Unfortunately for him, hundreds of participants show up that don't follow his dogma. You'd think the anthro community would be welcome. Last year they were outright hostile and rude to a person from a different fandom. My 1st Oly POS was 2006 with high fives and hugs for elderly and kids - always left smiling, every year. Tail's a waggin'

Some mixed thoughts here... Always great to get together and have some furry fun but this event was tainted with some drama involving the procession organizer who really didn't want us there. Accord was achieved and we participated. As to the Procession itself, kind of long but the weather was good, people were great and I did have a good time, leaving with some good memories and really sore footpaws. Hope we can do this again next year :3

Definitely the toughest fursuiting event I've been to so far but man the crowd was great and the rest of you were fun to hang with. A big thanks to Comrade and the other handlers who carried water for us. I'm glad the drama with the parade organizer didn't get worse than what it was. We showed up, we donated, we paraded, and everything before that was just a bunch of hit air. A big thanks to Max and Myumi for making this happen :)

    April 29, 2012

  • MabelSyrup

I had a lot of fun hanging out with everyone!
Unfortunately the parade it's self was too tiring for me ;o; Plus the official guy in charge was kind of a jerk with the whole "I've heard of furries. We don't want them here" replace "Furries" with any other generalization of a group and it's plain that it's horrifically offensive. ANYwho, LOVED hanging out! Sorry to rant XD

    April 29, 2012

  • MaxCoyote

Thanks to everyone for being so awesome! We had a lil drama / complications at the last minute, but it all worked out. I really hope everyone had fun. I know alot who RSVPed didn't show up. About half of you. I think next time I will have a better prep/meetup spot. I hope to do it again!

  • Konnorwolf

Parking victory by being rather early. Anyone else show up a bit early?

    April 28, 2012

  • Ryan (.

I'm up for the challenge. Let's do this!

    April 28, 2012

  • Konnorwolf

What was the organizer mostly worried about? Them having slight problems with us being there is slightly discouraging. We will just have to show them we are a fun friendly group of people. :)

    April 28, 2012

  • MaxCoyote

Anywho, check out the email Michael is sending everyone. It'll give you a better idea of the issue.

    April 28, 2012

  • MaxCoyote

....with "OH MURR" tshirts! NONE! If you show up with any shirts like that, you can't be in the parade. SORRY! That's half my fault for not understanding the rules totally. I didn't know they would be restricting our first amendment rights. ANYWAY, just kinda be in BEST BEHAVIOR for this. We need to show them we are good people.

    April 28, 2012

  • MaxCoyote

hey guys: I got a call from the organizer of this event, and he's VERY worried about us being there. He's not very happy about furries at his parade. I basicly talked to him on the phone for about 30 minutes tell him that we're a great group of people, totally respectful and just here to have fun. It worked out. HOWEVER, there are a few things I have to go over. I missed a vital rule about the parade. NO SIGNS OR SHIRTS WITH TEXT! I know this might be hard or the partial fursuiters...

    April 28, 2012

  • SiberHamster

The Procession website has a link to an acceptance speech I gave. It will also make clear that simply showing up with an animal hat and tail does not qualify - nor does it honor the efforts others have made in creating artistic expression that do honor the intent of the Procession. What does qualify is your own intent to come in your awe and appreciation of the natural world and your respectful contribution to contribute to the success on to contribute to the success of everyone elses experience

    April 28, 2012

  • SiberHamster

Wish I knew that beforehand as I emailed the director and sounded like a hat and tail did not qualify for the parade so I did not plan on going if I was not eligible. (See reply below) Just FYI. Hope y'all have fun! ~C>

  • Christofur

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO WALK IN THE PARADE. READ the website "Spectators are welcome to join in with the procession at any point along the route."

    April 28, 2012

  • MaxCoyote

Konnor: Partial suits work! :3 Mine is partial, so they better. XD

    April 28, 2012

  • MaxCoyote

BTW guys! If you WANT to be in the parade and you're NOT a fursuiter, please try to come to the event wearing ears and a tail. It would help me get you into the parade. Keep the mind the parade is for costumers. They MIGHT not let ya in simply cause you're in the group. :P

    April 28, 2012

Hoping for lots of shine! :)
Being curious and all, no issues with those with partial suits?
I have a habit of checking as many details as possible.

    April 27, 2012

  • Christofur

I will be at the Earth starting point at least an hour before the scheduled start of the parade. "4:30 PM: Procession begins – rain or shine"

    April 27, 2012

  • Konnorwolf

What time are most likely to head down town?

    April 27, 2012

  • Carma/Stella

*jumps up and down screaming, "yay, yay, yay"!* I'm gonna be there! Thanks Brook and Drea!

    April 27, 2012

  • Carma/Stella

I may end up coming since drea and brook don't want to leave me out. I have tons of canned food, so we'll c. Keeping my fingers crossed.

    April 27, 2012

  • MaxCoyote

Btw, is anyone leaving RIGHT after the parade heading north? I'll have to leave pretty early.

    April 27, 2012

  • Christofur

Myumi - this is a big parade. Some participants will have twice our numbers. We'll just be a happy fur ball along the way.

    April 27, 2012

  • Christofur

MC - I registered Sparky and Shiny online a while ago and got a robo email response. The subject line indicated POS registration. Not much else.

    April 27, 2012

  • MabelSyrup

lol I hope it's not somehow a surprise to them they're getting 30 critters XD

    April 27, 2012

  • April 27, 2012

  • MaxCoyote

Just a warning guys: I have yet to hear ANYTHING back from the Parade group since I registered. I will give them a buzz today and hope for the best.

    April 27, 2012

  • Vessi

will def bring a belt ^^

    April 26, 2012

  • Konnorwolf

I feel the biggest challenge will be parking, I know I am going to get there way too early to avoid that. :D

    April 25, 2012

  • Exdraghunt

A reminder to people who will be wearing a suit of mine: please, bring a belt.

    April 25, 2012

  • Elli

Turns out I won't be able to go, too much going on and I actually have to coach Roller Derby that day. I hope you all have a great time and I'll do my best to free up the ol' schedule for the next meet!

    April 24, 2012

  • Elli

    Sounds great, thanks!

    April 23, 2012

  • Ryan (.

You're just down the street from me Elli, I can get ya :)

    April 23, 2012

  • Elli

I'd love to go if I could catch a ride, coming from North Seattle nearish Lake City. I can try to bus to an easier pickup spot if needs be.

    April 23, 2012

  • MaxCoyote

Alright guys. Furlife group is registered for 30 attendants. Please do remember to bring 2 cans of food. Procession participants will meet at the intersection of Legion Way and Cherry Street.

    April 22, 2012

  • MaxCoyote

Ok guys, I"m gonna register for 30 attendees under the "earth" group later today when I get home from work. I will try to also have more info about where to meet up.

    April 22, 2012

  • Konnorwolf

Since I live here I should finally get myself down to this. :)

    April 22, 2012

  • Christofur

Note - please comply with MaxCoyote's wishes for his Meet Up. For those going solo: FYI - there appears to be no deadline for POS registration. You can wait for your POS registration until the day before. You will be allowed in the parade. They issue no registration creditials. Of five years attending, I have never been asked to prove my status. Only those participants that conflict with the spirit of the POS have been challenged. As MaxCoyote states - no guarantees. YOU WILL HAVE A BLAST
