Re: [furries-290] Please ignore trolls (dalavin) // Also, long threads please be careful

I apologize to anyone who got offended by my logic or annoyed from me, that wasn't my intent.  My very first post was just of "can you please move it to the message board," that was it... Nothing more, nothing less.  But then I get looked down upon for defending myself against the hostility of others that followed from my innocent, logical, and reasonable request? I don't think that is right.

See, I totally agree, I am all for furs getting together and discussing things, but after I open my inbox and see:
Furries290
Furries290
Furries290
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
important email
Furries290
...
...
That kinda just rapes my inbox.  If it was seperate topics or one that the whole list is a part of, that's understandable.  But when it's just a personal conversation between 3-6 people, I don't really care and it's a waste of time for me.

So again, I'm sorry for those of you whose inbox got spammed by that thread.  Not my intent, I just asked a simple request and then got ridiculed for it by others so I responded, my bad.

Okay - so I apologize that the topic/off-topic thing isn't a set  of hard and fast rules, but the guideline I use is this:

Event organization is always on topic, but these days you can comment straight on event so we usually don't see as much of that come up here any more.
In the past, people used to talk on-list about events "OMG DENNYS WAS SO GREAT!" and stuff like that. That's probably okay too, though again some of that moved to the comments on the events.
PS: BOWLING WAS FUN, WOOO! or something :3

Posting about interests (ex: anyone else into guns?) is also fine, but once interest is found, you'd move it to the messageboard to finish the discussion.
Using the mailinglist is like yelling over top of the crowded room to get you some attention :)

Things that are discouraged are: Anything you wouldn't talk about on a stage with an audience of strangers listening.

Questions like "who you are" and "why you're into fur" need to be encouraged toward greetings, message board posts, or in person, since you could easily expect a thread like that to go over the magic 20-post "People are gonna be annoyed" threshold. You pretty much get a free pass under that, as long as you really believe that many of the members would be interested in your message. People usually are, too :3

Wow seems like uve all grown some since I last checked my email. (Which was last night..) however I'm a bit confused here...is it therefore frowned upon to discuss anything not immediatly related to furlife meetups? Such as dates and times and places 'n' such? I personally don't care about high trafic in my inbox. I'm a part of so many mailing lists and newsletters its not funny. Plus I do enjoy reading what people have to say. Kinda let's u take a peek inside their minds into what type of character they are. That's my opinion anyway.

Anyway since I started responding id thought id ask a general question buts its not immediatly about any upcoming meetings. Since I'm still pretty fresh to the whole fur-on-two-legs scene, id thought id ask about some of the members in this meetup. Things like who u are, why ur into fur, and what animal u recognize with. I'm guessing these are the general fur questions at least. Anyway just like to get to know the other members more. I'm sure ur all pretty fly folks.

I figure this, and this might be a good compromise for those who don't
wish to see excruciatingly long threads here.

Remember that we do have other mailing lists.  There's wa-furries,
there are a couple of other lists on Yahoo for those of us in the PNW
furry crowd.  I belong to a number of them.  We can post here, and/or
we can post there.

To me, it doesn't matter terribly.

On the grounds that even a stopped clock tells you the right time
twice per day, Dalavin does have one valid point - that this list is
more conducive to meet-ups and social events.  It's not, as far as I'm
concerned, unacceptable to post here about this topic, but in
deference to those in our crowd that don't want to see a metric
shit-ton of messages that aren't really so conducive to social events,
perhaps it's not a bad idea to make such posts on those lists as well.
It would certainly help with their traffic =)
