Aging and the Quest for Long Life with Eric Anderson

For our June future salon, Eric Anderson is going to be coming up to talk about "The Quest for long life: The Epic of Gilgamesh & Methuselah". Topics in current research will include: calorie restriction diets, the effect of retarded growth upon the length of life and ultimate size, model orgasisms (yeast, worms, flies, mice, dogs, primates, glucose, Insulin, and IGF-1, resveratrol, rapomycin (mTOR), autophagy recycling of proteins, mitochordria, etc, ADP and ATP, glycerol C3H8O3, low methionine, manoheptulose (avocadoes), trehalose triacetin, telomerase, carbon 60 buckyballs, and 2-Deoxy-D-glucose.

For the future, we'll speculate on treatments for leading causes of death: heart attacks, cancer, diabetes, kidney diseases, Alzheimers and Parkinson's. Other topics include 24/7 testing of vital metabolites, drugs capable of up and downregulating DNA and RNA, medical devices regulating gastrointestinal dynamics, artificial organs, artificial white blood cells, and red blood cells, drugs for amyloids, and drugs for telomeres.

Finally we'll discuss whether some ideas are whack or fringe: young blood, young reproductive organs, young factor X, and suspended animation.

My apologies to the group for being unable to alter my RSVP when I got waylayed by work yesterday. I hope to make it up to everybody over the next 300 or 400 years.
