The Future of Cities:
The forward-thinking writer Derrick Jensen defines cities as fixed locations where people live more or less permanently “in densities high enough to require the routine importation of food and other necessities of life.”
In light of the unique challenges and opportunities of the 21st century (i.e. climate change, resource loss, rising population, architecture, mobile computing, transportation, open spaces, security and surveillance), will our cities be forced to evolve? If so, how?
These pressing questions have led the NYC Future Salon to focus our next session on The Future of Cities.
And, again, rather than have a featured speaker, this event will be held in the Little Bigs format – allowing you to present your views which in turn will drive the meeting’s discussions.
For those of you not familiar with the format, Little Big presenters will have 5 minutes and 5 slides (optional) to introduce their big idea to the group. (See Rules & Guidelines below)
Slides can be made electronically (with Powerpoint, Open Office, etc.) or passed around the group. (Yes, this time we will cut off speakers at 5 minutes! We now have a clock! So rehearse for 5 minutes!)
Please contact Jacques or Garry with your topic proposals and slide presentations via email at [masked] or [masked] respectively.

This should be a fascinating - not to be missed!!
After Little Bigs, everyone is invited to stay at the Stone Creek for food and drinks!
Little Big rules:
• 5 slides, 5 minutes (really, 5 minutes!)
• Then we have Q&A after all the presenters are finished
Guidelines
• Don’t waste time giving an introduction. Just have a statement to start.
e.g. Don’t waste time saying ‘What I want to talk to you about today is…’ Just jump in!
• Focus on one thing. One aspect of change.
e.g. don’t give a Little Big on climate change, present a little Big on one (1) proposed solution or one implication.
• Don’t give overviews of the Big Picture. Jump right into the topic.
e.g. if your presentation is on future of transportation, do not waste a slide or minute on the history of transportation. Leap into the future.
• Rehearse!!! You have five minutes.
