"Little Bigs" are back!
'Little Bigs' is a format for presenting big ideas in a very short period of time. Presenters are limited to 5 minutes and 5 slides to share their big idea with the audience, then we ask questions and discuss at the end of all the presentations.
On Saturday, July 19th we will hear from NYC Future Salon members on their versions of optimistic Utopias and pessimistic Dystopias of the near future. The themes and the topics will vary, so this meeting has no specific theme.
This is our current list of presenters:
Carol Pawlowski
War and Peace 2020
Joe Plotkin
Openness of the Internet
Arnell Dowret
Spirituality for the Future
Shane Hope
(Visual art scenarios)
Mike Ignatowski
Apocalypse or Sustainability?
Here are the rules:
Topic Utopian or Dystopian-themed scenarios of a future world centered around any topic (e.g. media, medicine, war, climate change, industry, etc).
Timeline Any year between 2015 - 2045 (if you want to venture further, let Garry know!)
Formats
Storytelling in your own voice
or using "future artifacts",
or via Powerpoint (images, audio, text, videos).
Be creative, plausible and engaging.
First come, first served. If you are interested in presenting send Garry an email ([masked])
Thanks to Carol for coming up with this great topic!
So will it be a Utopia?
or a Dystopia?

Joey, Thanks for your questions-- (see overview) 'little bigs' is a format for presenting ideas that limits the time/number of slides of each presenter so we hear from many people in a short time period. And for this program, I wouldn't go too deep into pure definitions of Utopian/Dystopian. We're looking for plausible, engaging stories of different futures. Good, bad or both. Meant to be thoughtful and engaging less deeply philosophical given the format. And yes, there is never an 'end state'
