SHSNY Special Event June 4

From: Lee
Sent on: Monday, June 2, 2008 11:45 AM
WEDNESDAY, JUNE
SHETLER STUDIO ANNEX
939 8TH AVENUE (55-56 ST.), 2ND FLOOR

BARBARA OAKLEY, Ph.D. P.E.
author of
Evil Genes: How Rome Fell, Hitler Rose, Enron Failed, and Mys Sister Stole My Mother's Boyfriend
will discuss
WHY PEOPLE BEHAVE BADLY

Dr. Oakley explores human evil from a human and a scientific perspective.  She'll talk about the experiences and people that led her to research the topic, e.g., KGB agents she met while serving as a translator on Soviet trawlers, isolated crew members at a South Pole station, and others.  All this is tied in with details of recent advances in brain imaging and genetics that have profound implications for traditional views of evil.  (And yes, her sister really did steal her mother's boyfriend.)

Admision is free.  (A $5 donation is requested.)
