A conservation-minded facility tour is offered at 5:00 p.m., and a family-style dinner is served at 6:00 p.m. throughout the year. Breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m. and checkout is from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. daily.

Guests arrive on foot! A moderate 5-mile hike takes you past beautiful vistas and creeks. Upon arrival, you will check in and go to your private room, which has bunk beds. Dinners are served family style, followed by an evening program about the natural or cultural resources of the Southern Appalachians. Early birds should not miss daybreak from the Sunrise Room. After a hot breakfast, explore the wilderness around the Hike Inn or head back to the park. Trail lunches, snacks, Hike Inn T-shirts, and limited hiking gear are available at the inn. Those staying two nights may want to hike to Springer Mountain, 4.4 miles away, which is the beginning of the Appalachian Trial. Leave your worries behind-Enjoy your wilderness retreat!

The Hike Inn is a Pack It In, Pack It Out facility. No trash cans are provided.

What to Wear & Bring

Wear sturdy, comfortable boots or shoes and bring more than one change of socks. Layered, lightweight clothing will allow you to adjust to temperature changes without having to carry too many clothes in your pack. Rain gear is a must. Remember a flashlight, toiletries, camp shoes, insect repellent, sun screen and a first aid kit. Many guests also bring a camera to capture the scenic beauty. DON’T FORGET TO BRING AMPLE DRINKING WATER FOR YOUR HIKE TO THE INN! Untreated stream water is not safe for drinking. The Hike Inn has a 'refill station' for your water bottle.

**************************************************

Again, a TIP of $5.00 per person per day would be nice from everyone.  Please tip more if you'd like. There are baskets and boxes for you to leave your tips. Also, last time we had live music both nights so tips are encouraged for those providing music as well...

For those staying until Monday, we will be doing a day hike on Sunday.

Hike to Springer Mtn. It's 4.4. miles (8.8 miles round trip) north from the Inn's front porch. We'll eat our sack lunch at the top. It's the official end or beginning of the App. Trail.

For the hike out - some of you may want to go back down the hike inn trail.. and others might want the more streneous 5.2 mile hike on the Approach Trail.. both end up back in the same parking area. We will be happy to show you those options here as well.

WE WILL BE MEETING AT 12:00PM AT THE TRAILHEAD AND START HIKING NO LATER THAN 12:15PM, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US.

You may start earlier if you'd like. If you don't hike with us at 12:15pm YOU NEED TO CHECK-IN BY 2PM!!! Otherwise, they won't let you hike.

It's about a 2 hour drive from Atlanta and you must check in at the Trading Post which is in the Amicalola Falls State Park Visitors Center just inside the park entrance so allow time for all of this.

LET ME REITERATE, WE WILL START HIKING PROMPTLY AT 12:15pm

For those of you who can not make 12:15pm or wish to hike earlier, feel free to post comments to arrange carpooling and your own starting times. According to their website, the hike is 5 miles and takes 2 - 4 hours. I believe it took us about 2.5 hours last year.

Here is a link to their map to get you there.

http://gastateparks.org/lodges/amicalola/map/

All guests must check in at the Visitors Center which is in Amicalola Falls State Park, just inside the park entrance. When you check in, you will be told where to park your car near the trailhead at the top of Amicalola Falls. There are evening programs being offered each night if you would like to attend. We will know what these are closer to the dates.

If you hike in a bottle of wine (just an FYI - alcohol is NOT permitted in GA State Parks so bring at your own risk), remember, you MUST carry it back out with you when you leave.

Again, read all about Hike Inn and their rules here... http://hike-inn.com/faq/

3 SPOTS AVAILABLE FOR $150 OR BEST OFFER!!!

    February 14, 2014

  • Virginia P.

Thank you all for the hiking boots/warm feet recommendations!
Unfortunately, I had a major family emergency come up last night that is ongoing. I cannot join you for the hike after all ... I'm very disappointed but obviously family comes first!
I'm adding my spot to the auction - would love to sell it, as I don't think there is a refund for emergencies? I paid $150.00 - would come down on price if that is possible just to get money back.

    February 14, 2014

  • Virginia P.

Is there snow or ice on the trail still? If there is a good chance of it still being there Saturday, what kind of shoes do I need to wear? I don't have hiking boots and really can't afford them now.

    February 13, 2014

After this week there will be some mud. Most of the trail up should be fine but in a few spots there are definite muddy opportunities. So leave any white canvas shoes at home.

      February 13, 2014

    • Kari S.

Wool socks, even the thin ones for summer are helpful in keeping your feet warm.

      February 14, 2014

2 spots open for $150 Or Best Offer! Get 'em before they're gone.

    February 13, 2014

  • Debra

Looks like you've filled the spots but wondered if it makes any sense to go for only one night? Unfortunately I have to work on Monday.

    February 9, 2014

    • John C.

The first year I did this we only did one night but it's just not enough time to fully enjoy the inn, the people and the mountains, so we started doing two nights. I am trying to get the Inn again for November 8-10 so put it on your calendar now :)

      February 9, 2014

    • John C.

Debra, one member is selling their spot for $150 which is a steal, if you're interested.

My husband and I won't be able to make HIke Inn this year either. I have a lame excuse too...I fell and tore my ACL while hiking in Grenada at Christmas time. I was really hoping I'd be ok to hike the 5 miles by now, but unfortunately it is still too painful. This opens up two spots from me and my husband. I'm bummed I can't go, as I've been there before; it's amazing!

    February 9, 2014
