Jesus Had Two Daddies: A presentation by performance activist PETERSON TOSCANO

"Peterson Toscano uses brilliant comedy and hard won insight to interweave his long journey out of the closet and through years of "ex gay therapy".

Peterson Toscano is a US-based theatrical performance activist using comedy and storytelling to address social justice concerns and queer issues. After spending 17 years and over $30,000 on three continents attempting (and failing) to change his gay orientation, he has emerged as a queer cheeky voice of reason in the midst of the culture war.

Tonight in his newest play, "Jesus Had Two Daddies," Peterson revisits his years of trying desperately to repress his gay orientation in hopes of craving Jesus exclusively. He also hilariously deconstructs traditional views of the Bible and tells pretty much every bloody genital Bible story that exists.

In "Waking up from a Biblically Induced Coma" he discusses the effects of and recovery from religious abuse.

An American Quaker, Peterson has performed often in the UK including at the 2008 Lambeth Conference, Cambridge University, the European Forum for Lesbian and Gay Christians, and the Greenbelt Festival. He has been featured in the Guardian, BBC Radio, the Times of London, The Independent, and the Church Times, and he helped produce and appears in the recent documentary film, "This is What Love in Action Looks Like." Peterson lives in Pennsylvania Amish Country with his husband, the South African memoirist, Glen Retief.

"Gay conversion therapies give moral authority to bullies says ex-missionary".

Very entertaining indeed. gave some good insights also into ex-gay organisers - trying to maintain male privileges in a homophobic society etc. Intriguing to think how he would seem in his N Ireland venues. (But the DVD I bought was disappointing - clearly filmed before a religious audience and using a very different approach. With us he could clearly let his hair down and have a ball!)

I was disappointed that he was only performing excerpts of the play - I had hoped to see the whole thing.
