Build a Snake-Shaped Garden Path

It's like a Barn-Raising including a Potluck lunch. Potluck is zero waste, bring your own plate cup and utensils
Our goals will be: building a garden path and sheet mulching the vegetable garden. This is part of the ongoing placemaking project by Transition Pasadena at the soon-to-open Arroyo Food Co-op., We have plotted the path with flags. We have dug out some of the dirt from the path. , We want to take tape off cardboard, put down a cardboard weed barrier in the path, put down mulch on top of the cardboard, mark the path with more flags to outline the shape of a snake. This will require using a measuring tape., We want to put broken concrete inside the outline of the snake and put bricks outside the outline of the snake. Then we will put down cardboard weed barrier on the vegetable garden and cover that with all of the rest of the mulch.
Tools needed, Materials: We have almost everything we need. However, we would welcome shovels, gloves, tables, chairs, flat broken concrete, bricks, broken bricks, mulch, wheelbarrows, cardboard.
***Note: There will be a Really Really Free Market, so bring your nicer give away items and take home something new (to you). There will also be a clothesline and clothespins for your cloud appreciation paper clouds, and a sidewalk chalk art opportunity. From Transition Pasadena newsletter: A snake is hatching in the Free Food Garden during a Barn Raising!, We’ve been working steadily on the garden outside the soon-to-open Arroyo Food Co-op. California native plants are in the ground, 3 fruit trees have been planted, and a garden path is under construction. It’s all coming together, which is why a snake is hatching. , The garden path is in the shape of a snake, complete with head and tapering tail. The delicate curves will be beautiful and a joy to walk on. So we are hosting a “Barn Raising”. There is no barn, but the idea is the same. People come together to make some rapid progress in a big project., Barn Raising, Saturday, April 19, 2014, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, outside the Arroyo Food Co-op, 494 N. Wilson Ave., Pasadena, CA 91106, * Potluck lunch. Potluck is zero waste, bring your own plate cup and utensils., Free market , Sidewalk Chalk art for kids, A clothesline for cloud appreciation day art, Questions: [masked]
